Saving Imported Alphas...

I am currently running ZBrush 3.1 and have successfully created my own set of alphas in Photoshop and I can import these into ZBrush. I can then use these set of brushes which is exactly what I want.

I have created a user interface and now want to add these alphas to my ui set by ctrl dragging, however when I restart ZBrush, the brush is no longer there.

  1. Is there a folder I need to put these alphas ? \ZStartup\Alphas, or \ZData\Alphas ?
  2. Is there a limitation on the number of imported alphas I can use at one time ?

hi

Yes…zstartup/alphas folder… I can’t remember if there was a limit or not but you might want to check out Marcus_Civis cool alpha and texture loader plugin here

Cheers aminuts, I have just tried ZStartup\Aphas, unfortunately that does not seem to work.

As a test, I copied ZData\Alphas to ZData\Alphas_Original and in the ZData\Alphas folder removed all the alpha brushes here. Restarted ZBrush and the only alphas were Alpha Off and Alpha 01 (which was a soft round brush).

I copied my user defined brush to ZStartup\Aphas, however when I restarted ZBrush the only alphas again were Alpha Off and Alpha 01 (which was a soft round brush).

I will look into the alpha and texture loader plugin.

Just seen this message from Aurick:

One important correction to your post is that you should not modify the content of the ZData folder. If you would like these alphas to be available at start up, place these in the StartUp/Alpha folder (not the ZData folder).
Placing, removing or modifying files within the ZData folder may result in unexpected behavior and is strongly discouraged.

Will now restore back the ZData\Alphas folder.

OK, I’ve now got it to work. The problem was I needed to convert my alpha to grayscale and now it loads successfully. The folder is indeed \ZStartup\Alphas.
