can i save my sub tools as obj. files w/ the materials intact for opening in vue.

Tool>Export will let you export your model as an OBJ. Materials, however, are native to each rendering engine. There is no way to export materials from ZBrush to Vue, just as there’s no way to export them from Vue to something like Cinema 4D.
