saved ZTL's failing to open

hi guys,

not sure if anyone has had this problem before. but today, all of the sudden my Zbrush just crashed. I thought nothing of it, happens all the time. But after I restarted Zbrush and try to load up the previous version of the ZTL, I get

“Error has been encountered while trying to load a Tool. Loading has been aborted”

now i’m thinking, hmmm weird. then I tried to load the previous iteration, failed and the one before that and on and on. basically I have to go back about 25 iterations before I could load my ZTL. which is about two days worth of work. Has anyone ever seen this or know of a way to recover my files?

Zbrush 3.5R2
Windows XP x64 SP2
Intel E5240 @ 3.00GHz
3.00 GHz, 8GB RAM

any help would be greatly appreciated and let me know if any more information is needed.

thanks.

Punn

My best advice is always save your tool/subtools at the lowest subd, never the highest, to ensure that they will open properly. I cannot explain why the prog wont open them after youve already had them opened and working, but this has happened as far back as i can remember when using ZB and i feel your pain

You likely have set your preferences>mem settings too high and not left enough ram for either background apps or your operating system. That and too high a level of undos can cause file corruption that transitions through every saved iteration after the corruption happens. As far as I know, there is no way to recover a corrupted file.

I can’t say for sure whether or not this is the case, but that’s what it sounds like. Check your settings, and search this Q & T forum for “file corruption” to find the right settings for you. This has happened to me. After I corrected my settings, it never happened again.

i have the same problem. here is the error messages.

I’ve actually found the solution to this weird problem. it’s the fact that my ZTL’s live on the network. If I copy it to my local drive, it works just fine. and it’s not every files neither. some files work just fine from the network but some don’t. don’t ask me why neither, i have no idea but that helped me out. so hopefully it’ll help you.
