Savage Beauty

Mr Barton,

Thanks very much for all the helpful insights and information that you have provided in this thread. Your Savage Beauty and Malificent would be awesome even if you just posted the finished renders but the information on your processes and techniques make it all that much more of an important thread, and bookmark in my favorites. I actually thought I was pretty much finished with the modelling phase of a character I was working on until I saw the wireframe of Savage Beauty that you posted in post #55 (on page 4). Even from the front I could tell that I had some problems in the hips and butt. There was at least one problematic pole that you don’t have and the flow wasn’t right either. I think I’ve pretty much got things fixed and I owe you a great deal of thanks for that. However I’d still be very interested in seeing the wireframe from the back since that’s where a lot of my problems were. Normally I wouldn’t even think of asking someone to post anything like that since I think people sometimes are, and indeed can rightly be protective of their work. But since you were generous enough to post the frontal wireframe I can’t think of any particular reason why the back would be a major problem. If that is the case and you don’t mind posting it I really appreciate it and thank you very much in advance. If not then I completely understand and thanks again for all the information that you’ve already provided.

Mornings

mornings: Thanks, I’m always glad to help out when I can. So I hope this screen shot will help you out even more.

And as far as my work flow process for the Maleficent character. I’m still working on it, it’s getting pretty long and taking me a little longer than I had planed. But it will be up very soon.

Maleficient is awesome. I love this style. How did you go about making the print for the dress?

great character, makes me think of the evil witch from Disney

This looks really good. I love the pattern design in her clothes. I think everything is pretty solid, from the modeling to the pose. My favorite is the face; Very powerful stare.

Well done.

Cool !! …

I agree with Ville. This turned out really nice and she is beautifully mean - if that makes sense. The gown and attention to detail on the model is striking. Congratulations on a very fine model!

Also, I would like to say thank you for sharing workflow tips from before and I am looking forward to seeing the new workflow stuff you’ll be sharing.

Good show :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Fantastic work. I really appreciate all the details you put into that dress.

Mr Barton,

Thanks very much! Not only did the wireframe that you posted help me eliminate two more poles that I had in the back but looking at it and your other posts inspired me to try to drastically reduce my polygon count. Previously it was about 50,000 faces and as you can imagine that was a lot to work with. Now it’s down to 15,000 and although I didn’t quite make it to 12,500 so that a smooth in maya or a subdivision in zbrush would bring me back to the 50,000 I started with I don’t mind the extra 10,0000 faces at all. In fact considering the fact that I now have a much more manageable base mesh for modelling and sculpting rough changes, not to mention for using as a low resolution proxy when animating, I actually consider the extra faces as almost a free bonus. They’ll certainly slow things down much less than the low resolution mesh will speed things up and I really appreciate your help and inspiration.

Okay, been away for a while, kind of got burnt out.
As far as my how to doc for the Maleficent piece; I put it on hold so I could play around in ZB 4
I will have it posted soon.
This was done fairly quick so it’s not as polished as I would have liked. Mainly wanted to do a piece in ZBrush wich is a first for me.
So here is my latest piece done entirley in ZBrush 4 using zspheres and shadow box. This was taken from J Scott Camble’s Danger Girk Sketch Book.

Hope you guys enjoy.

NICE! I love DG stuff. Working on Abby myslelf from the same sketchbook. Are you going to texture this one?

No textures, I just wanted to do just a sculpt for this one.
Can’t wait to see your Abby.

That looks fantastic! I know she is from Danger Girl, but she looks like she would fit into the Jak&Daxter world. To me, very Naughty Doggish. That’s a good thing. Did you take any zsphere screenshots?

mrwilt: Thanks for the comments.
Here is my basic work flow for this sculpt.
I’m sure others here may have a better way but here is mine.
Hope this helps.

Love the style she’s looking VERY nice!

This piece is fantastic! i love the stylized body shape. not sure if u were trying to get campbell’s look dead on cuz the face is a tad off but it still looks great! awesome stuff!

Fantastic ! :+1:
I love it !
Any chance you can show us how you sculpted the hair ?

Greetings, Dominiek.

beautiful!

It’s a shame to see your model look so good yet miss a key feature like this, I just thought I’d point it out, it is a rather noticeable eyesore once you’re aware of it

Other than that, the nose seems a little off, but its not a big deal really, keep at it tho
