Thanks dude! I love that Sauve tribute you did. Very cool!
This wasn’t a test FOR Rage, but I was asked to do it for id software. I guess you can say it was based off their style of Rage though.

Great Works Sandpiper
Hey all,
Been a little busy getting my new company off the ground the last month or so (chickwalker.com) but I did want to update everyone on the latest for the CGNuggets Creatures #1 tutorial series. If you remember, I’ve been working on this quadraped bison beast. This latest video deals with using animal anatomy reference when sculpting original design. It’s important to try and keep what we know as “existing” anatomy and incoporate it into your creative works. This is because our brains are so used to seeing anatomy a certain way that it becomes confusing if we veer waaaay off…The next video coming out in the next couple weeks will deal with detailing.

Here’s a little snippet from the full length video:
very cool creature! I also like your other work, especially the Hunter. Been watching your Making off workshop on ZBrushWorkshops. really nice. learned a lot from it
Looks nice , what is the books name ?
Henrik F: Cool! Happy to hear it’s helping you.
proiben: The book is by Eliot Goldfinger: Animal Anatomy for Artists: The Elements of Form - Amazon.com link --> http://www.amazon.com/Animal-Anatomy-Artists-Elements-Form/dp/0195142144/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1343702276&sr=8-2&keywords=animal+anatomy
The next video will be coming out in the next couple days - I’ll be working towards finishing off the creature and talking about my approach to adding details and character traits.
Decided to take this creature in a slightly different direction…needs a little grooming at this point as I’ve only placed the new geo. Don’t know if I’ll end up using Fibers or not. :\
awesome work. I’m definitely getting your tutorials.
Been busy with secret work shtuff - hopefully I can post some Borderlands 2 creatures I worked on soon. NDA red tape is killing me!
Here’s the FINAL MONTHLY VIDEO for CGNuggets (some of you may actually be thanking me for not posting anymore of these - haha!) That’s right -I’m done making monthly tutorials. Now I’m onto WORKSHOPS. More on that below…
In this video, I continue to work on adding final skin and fur detailing. Although I don’t finish the whole creature (it’s real-time after all folks!) at least the techniques are passed on here and you can apply to your own creatures! WOOT.
Now WORKSHOPS – The basic idea can be seen here in my amazing Hollywood quality intro video:
I’m much cheaper than other options out there.
FIRST WORKSHOP - EPIC FILM CREATURE (most likely a massive battle cat type beast)
Hey fellas! I’m smack dab in the middle of the Epic Film Creature Workshop: Battle Beast - I figured I’d post some screengrabs for those who were curious about the content. This is week 3 out of 8-10. We’re having a superduper blast! It’s never too late to join…

Lesson3: Base mesh (zspheres)
Lesson4: Anatomy blocking
Lesson6: Head and Fur Refinement
Always an Inspiration and pleasure seeing your work flow and works…Keep Inspired and Inspiring…Always…small_orange_diamond:)

Thanks Glenn!
A couple more screengrabs as I’ve finished the first pass on the secondary forms…lots of muscle tension right now but it’ll tone down in the next couple passes. Some of it will get tweaked a bit here and there too. Had to improvise on some areas where I didn’t have good reference. That’s always fun!
I still have the saddle/harness/accessories to design and sculpt - We’re about 1/3 of the way through the workshop where the sculpting takes about 1/2 of the overall. Come join the par-tay! http://www.cgnuggets.com/products/workshop-epic-film-creature

Ok, since it’s Christmas time I thought it’d be fun to give a gift. Here’s a FREE full-length sample from one of the lessons in my CGNuggets Workshop: Epic Film Creature: Battle Beast!
It’s real-time at 80 minutes long. It’s on Vimeo and YouTube so there’s some compression issues but hey, it’s FREE! Remember, this is just one of the many lessons from the Workshop.
VIMEO version: http://www.vimeo.com/55074812 (can’t figure out how to embed vimeo)
Thnx for the Christmas Gift, Santa Jesse:D;)
Happy New Year everyone. I wanted to post an update to the Battle Beast I’ve been working on for the CGNuggets Workshop: Epic Film Creature. The sculpt is pretty much done at this point and I’ve moved onto painting this sucker up. Those shots will come soon. Until now, here’s how the big guys is lookin:
Here’s the 2D PS paintover I did to give an idea of where the texturing will go in 3D:
