Samurai

It’s been a very long time since I’ve posted anything new. So here it be. I still have a few more steps to take in texturing dept. C&C would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you got any tips on texturing clothes specificly, I could use 'em!

Cool! I see he has the Naruto-style boots on.

Are you planning on texturing his pants? I suggest maybe some nice sakura flowers (in masculine colours, that is) or maybe oriental waves or clouds.

Rev. :stuck_out_tongue:

looks great now…for Times Square.:+1:

Wow!
Great work!! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:
Samurai whom you made is very dignified.
And, he is sexy. :o

And, his figure is typical feature young Japanese figure.

Now, his sword is right and left and opposite to usual samurai.
this picture of style is ninjya’s.
Samurai installs the sword in the left, and pulls it out by the right hand usually.
The left hand has the sheath. Afterwards, it has the sword by both hands.

I want to see your work more. :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Shikuri

:grimacing:fantastic work!!:+1:

This is amazing work! :grimacing: :+1:

As has been said, sexy stuff. This is an amazing job you did. Can we see the face without overwhelming shadow?

As for cloth, leaving it more or less solid coloured as it is now isnt a problem, it already looks finished to me, except the white which is looking too clean. I would try and give it some ambiant occlusion where it meets the other cloth. The blue and green parts look fine, at most give it some small cotton pattern for grain, but nothing too exremely harsh.

Very nice Model j lizzle!!! :+1: :sunglasses: :+1:

very nice! i like a lot your stuff…more!

Pretty freakin’ awesome.

lovely. really admirable pose, skin and hair and design.

loads of stuff to enjoy there.

please post a bigger render. or two…

Cheers

tim

Great style in this one, keep going. :+1:

I hate to be nitpicky, but as someone who studies koryu kenjutsu I’d like to point out some points in your character design =). Anyway swords are ALWAYS worn on the left hip. Even if their right hand is non functional. And also the blade is pointing upwards, to facilitate quickdraw. Plus, this is something most people won’t notice so doesn’t really matter, but the hakama has two pleats on the right leg side and three on the left.

Otherwise awesome model! How did you model the hakama? I’ve always been too intimidated to try and model it…

The simplest and fastest way of applying a pattern to clothing is to stick it on in Photoshop, that is if your UV layout will permit. This has the advantage of the pattern following the folds in a realistic way.

Cheers,

R

cool character … well done

Here’s an update. Tried to add a little more of a “Floating World” feel to 'em. I guess ronin is a more accurate description than samurai. Tat is a long ways from being finnished. Still no eyeball txtrs or shader work. Next would be teeth and facial expression.

Revanto, you caught me. I was originally gonna do something more Konohoa inspired. I’ll prbly post the original concept a little latter.

Pigma & -nii- where were you guys when I was doin’ the concepts? jk. The hakama wasn’t too bad. The trick is to tackle the pleats at the Maya phase, or lowest subdivision level. The judogi was the pain. I’ve only seen other animated characters wearing there judogi like this (Geese Howard, Heihachi, Genjuro). So I wasn’t sure how it would look in real life. I ended up modeling his judogi as if he were wearing it. Then I cut off his arms and used Maya nCloth to simulate the rest.

Art-Machine & Rory_L, thanks for the txtr tips. I’m not the brightest when it comes to lighting and rendering, I prbly would’ve forgot about trying ambient occlusion. I’ll definitely have to try adding some cotton grain, sounds pretty straight forward. Thanks again.

As always C&C is always welcome.

-I always bring the sexy:cool:

This is going to be a nice looking model when it is finished.

nice stuff, j lizzle.

I think you might need to check the dimensions/proportions of the forearm,
that is, unless you meant to make it so short (or the bicep is disproportionately long?). Think it needs to be another 1/4-length longer…

Dig the modeling and detail, tho!
