Ryuk リューク

Since I watched Death Note I couldn’t stop imagining how Ryuk would look like on a realistic style, and… something different than the life action movies.
So, some time ago I started this proyect on my free time, and ended up becoming on a big oppoirtunity to study and practice workflows. Starting by realism style, I wanted to transfer the Ryuk silly but creepy mood to his visuals, so I explored his anatomy having in mind Marfan syndrome and Kyphosis, giving me nice and interesting shapes to work with. For facial anatomy I had in mind nice actors like Willem Dafoe, whos the voice actor for one of the movies, Steven Tyler and Mick Jagger. All this was a really enjoyable process through ZBrush, working with XYZ maps, Maya, Painter among others. Lastly, I wanted to test the new Unreal Engine 5, so I decided to work with the hair strand system, the layered material system, implementhing custom masking methods and of course Lumen! I really enjoy and learn a lot with this project and I’m so happy to finally share it with you guys!
