Hello All,

The Gnomon Workshop has just released my Introduction to ZBrush DVD. The first in a series of 7 planned DVDs!

It is over 7.5 hours long and contains 33 different chapters. Each chapter is between ten and twenty minutes long for easy digestion.

The tutorial is based off the curriculum I developed for training at companies such as ILM, EA and Ubisoft. It represents all the effort I have put into teaching ZBrush to beginners over the years.

It covers the following:

  1. Get Sculpting in 5 Minutes
  2. Sculpting Fundamentals
  3. Review
  4. Sculpting Details
  5. Review
  6. Masks
  7. Documents verse Tools
  8. Sculpting Workflow with Clay Brush
  9. Understanding Brushes
  10. Polygroups and SubTools
  11. Polygroups
  12. Subtools
  13. Transpose
  14. ZSpheres
  15. ZSphere Quadraped
  16. ZSphere Hands
  17. Posing Your Model
  18. Transpose Master
  19. MatCap Materials
  20. Material Basics
  21. Managing Materials
  22. Lighting
  23. Rendering
  24. PolyPainting Essentials
  25. PolyPainting Multiple Objects
  26. PolyPainting with Cavity
  27. ZAppLink Part 1
  28. ZAppLink Part 2
  29. Exporting PolyPainting
  30. Using ZMapper Primer
  31. Displacement Maps Primer
  32. Turntables
  33. Topology Primer
Currently, I am also planning for an Intermediate ZBrush DVD and an Advanced ZBrush DVD. The other ones will have to remain a mystery for now. After doing this first DVD, I don't think I could ever finish talking about ZBrush!

Happy ZBrushing,

Ryan

happy to hear all that
you are a great teacher.

Ryan, congrats on the new dvd, i have learned alot from your previous offerings to the forum and the best of luck with this one. the last figure sketch is looking good love how loose your staying, are you going to finish this one off with a little more weight and tension playing off the current pose? if so can’t wait to see how it turns out.

I must admit, I was only moderately impressed with the sculptures on your site. Not in the sense of sculpting ability, just in the sense of finished product and composition. However, as I type this, to the right of me your “How to sculpt face anatomy” video is playing, and I just have to say that your crazy man! :grimacing: You’re a nut!

I get the feeling you’ve taken a TON of time to learn every aspect of digital sculpting from a technical standpoint. That’s what makes a good teacher, and I’m definitely going to check out your lessons.

I would love to see what your masterpiece would look like. A lot of your stuff shows great examples of training, but that technical knowledge combined with obvious talent for a full blown illustration would blow some minds. I’m in as far as your dvds though, congrats and good luck. (you won’t need it)

Congrats Ryan. You have given so much for free, im sure many will perchase your DVD. I know the advanced Zbrush DVD will sell even better, being that nobody has done one yet.

I personly would like to see a advanced topology DVD that deals with just Topology.

More work on the ballet sculpt above. Still trying to find the subtle rhythm of the pose.LS_J_17_sheet.jpg

Realy like this ballet sculpt Ryan. Was she made from Zspears?

Thats awesome

Cool. I hope they sell well for you. You deserve it.

So do Gnomon accept Paypal yet?

Yes they now except paypal, I have my copy in paypal ready to pay.

Cooool.

Cool as always Ryan! I know I enjoy watching you work on various projects.

Now as soon as Gnomon can mature and allow downloads directly
like to my AppleTV (plural as I have 6 of the little devils).

Not your problem, I know.

savagliani - Thanks.

threetails - hope the update is looser and has more tension. i am still finding the balance. my model wasn’t ale to make it the last few days so I am still working off imagination.

jamez- thanks for the kind words. I would love to see my masterpiece too!

tez- yeah, the advanced dvd is already planned. i just need to sit down for a weekend or so. The model actually came from Maya using the 8 head modeling workflow that I put up at Gnomonology. Gnomonology is down for maintenance for now, though.

vlad74 - thanks!

zogthedoomed - I hope too but i have lots of dvds planned. much empire building to do.

Jason - Thanks. As for the Apple TV there are so many cool ways to grow into the future. Good times ahead.

Congratulations on the DVD.

If it’s anyway near as good as your live teaching I will have to recommend this to everybody.

Looking forward to the advanced DVD even though it’s a bit scarse on the sparetime for sculpting at the moment

Thank you for the seemingly unending stream of inspiration you keep feeding us.

All the best from little Denmark
-Jakob

Ryan, she’s looking good. nice subtle changes to the forms of the abdomin and tilt of the head, and i’m begining to see her carry her weight as you develope the muscle masses. nice process to watch as always.

I was lucky enough to have Ryan as my ZBrush teacher at Gnomon. I learned a lot in the 10 weeks of the class, and continue to learn from Ryan’s Gnomonology clips.

If you see any topic in the table of contents that you need to know more about, this DVD will do it for you.

Thanks Ryan!

I purchased the download version from Gnomon yesterday. Really great stuff, cant wait for the next sets.

Thanks again,

Hi Ryan,

Just downloaded the tutorials and what a revelation!. Absolutely brilliant. So much information in easy to swallow chunks. Its just a shame
and its by no way a crit of you
but its a shame that pixologic didnt encourage the production of a tutorial like yours from the outset. I have felt over the past two years that I have been on an Indiana Jones style quest to piece together all of the functions and features of zbrush
and a very frustrating journey it was.

Chapter 23 (rendering) has opened my eyes to so many possibilities. I am afraid that I am a mixture of old school sculpture and newbie digital artist so its good to see every aspect of any given feature so eliquently demonstrated.

You never know, I may even end up knowing what normal maps are after a few more viewings.

Thanks Ryan
in your debt forever.

Jakob! How are you? Thanks for the kind words. Thanks for the hospitality when i was in Copenhagen, too!

threetails - thanks.

UnitO - Thank you sir. Hope to see ya again soon.

ryme - Thanks!

ministerart - Thanks. This really represents all the years I spent directing marketing and training as well as working in development at Pixologic. So in a sense it was encouraged. Just took me a bit to pull it all together. Glad it was useful to you.

Best,

Ryan
