Rotating problem when sculpting

I got this strange problem when trying to sculpt… sometimes, instead of sculpting the geometry it just rotates the model - just like click-draging in the background area. Never got this problem before, but now it´s getting really, really annoying. I mean, say I have the draw tool and want to add something to the geometry. I click and drag a couple of times and it works fine, then suddenly instead of drawing it just rotates. It´s completely random and makes it almost impossible to work with.

Anyone know a sollution to this problem?

Are you using Shift to smooth the tool? If so you might be accidentally activating the Spin hotkey sequence, namely:-

Press Shift; click and hold; release Shift; mouse drag.

Otherwise it might be your mesh is light enough for you accidentally to be able to click the background through the mesh`s vertices.

Cheers,

Must be something with the mesh. It works alot better at higher subdivision levels.

Your sculpting stroke must begin on a point in order for ZBrush to recognize it as sculpting. If it doesn’t, the model is rotated instead.

When your model only has a few polygons, you can have your cursor over a polygon without it being close enough to a point for ZBrush to recognize it as a sculpting stroke. As a result, the model gets rotated instead. It also takes a moment for ZBrush to try and identify that you’re getting close to a point. The way to tell for sure is to watch for the red dot. When you see the editing dot snap to one of your model’s points, you’ll know that you’re going to sculpt instead of rotate.

When your model has more polygons, it gets easier for ZBrush because it no longer has to search. It sees that there’s a point at the center of the cursor and knows what you want to do.

Is there any kind of workaround for this? It really slows down my sculpting flow when I’m always having to look if a vertex is highlighted before sculpting. Not to mention how annoying it is when the viewport is accidentally rotated.

When working with larger polys, you can use a larger brush size to get around this somewhat.

I noticed the same thing. I seems as when you’re not clicking on a vertice, Zbrush doesn’t see you’re clicking on a tool instead it thinks you’re clicking in an open space.

I noticed the same behaviour in Zbrush2 by the way.

edit: sorry, that’s what Aurick already said :o

i have the same problem and it’s maddening, i wish i could set: fingers for rotating etc, and pencil only to sculpt or use guzmo, could this be done?
