Ronin

After a couple of pretty gruesome weeks (involving my PC exploding and lots of other awesome stuff), I finally finished Ronin!

He will be the main character in my final/last (college) animation

The model’s base was created in MAX, detailed in Zbrush and again rendered in MAX

Please let me know what you think!

I just realized that those images are a little dark

Here’s a lighter version of the first shot:

I think this ones great, for some reason alot of good wortk gets overlooked on this forum and zbruchcentral altogether, pop over to cgsociety (if your not already there) it has a whole multitude of artists there. I cant believe im the only one to cvomment on this piece. Regarding the fact that theres alot of good posts on here. As a guy said to me, alot of peoples work ā€˜falls through the cracks’ and gets unnoticed which is a big shame.
I wont babble on no more, just wanted to let yah know yah works cool!:+1:

Where are his deltoids and groin?

@ Ares: Thank you so much for that great response! It was really kind of you, and it’s nice to know that my work did not go unnoticed amidst all of the talent here on Zbrushcentral! Again, thank you so much!

@ hmphhh: Though I think you are right about the groin (his deltoids are covered by the poncho), I think it really sucks to give feedback in such a manner… Especially considering the fact that there has been a wip thread up for the past 2 weeks in which I was asking for crits regarding proportional and anatomical issues.

If you have something to say, please be civilized about it. To me just leaving a comment like ā€œhis nose is too bigā€ or ā€œhis cranium needs to bulge out moreā€ and not saying anything else seems a little rude… But, that might just be me.

Anyways, here’s Burke! Ronin’s nemesis. Just roughing him out at the moment.

[Burke.jpg]Burke2.jpg

He’ll be a lot more ape/gorilla-like. I am definitely going for Hulk-esque proportions on this guy.

Sorry you took it that way - certainly wasn’t meant to be rude. On second looks, I can see that my comment is perhaps a little dry, so I don’t mind shouldering (no pun intended) the blame for you getting the ā€˜wrong end of the stick’.

Regarding the deltoids, it looks like there is virtually no mass beneath the poncho - certainly not enough to be commensurate with his chest and biceps. That is the first, jarring thought that leaps out at me everytime I view your otherwise interesting character.

I hadn’t seen your previous W.I.P thread, but have took the time to have a look now. Watching your YouTube clip gave views of his deltoids from different angles. That clip has reinforced my opinion that his deltoids are way too small, which is further exacerbated by his biceps appearing to be all ā€˜belly’ with no insertion/origin. Somebody else commenting in your W.I.P thread pointed out problems with his forearm anatomy - good, constructive advice that you don’t appear to have heeded.

Anyway, good luck, and it would be interesting to see you address these fundamental issues.

@ hmphhh: Sorry if I misunderstood your initial post. Please, don’t get me wrong! I will definitely adjust the model(s) according to all the feedback I get (if justified) once I have the time. Currently, I have to have this ready as part of a homework assignment (which is due tomorrow).

I will make the adjustments people suggested after it is handed in, as I get to work on the actual animation and refinement of the characters over the duration of the semester.

Here is a more current version of Burke (Ronin’s rival):

I like these models, and been following ronin from it’s starts, but I can’t help but fantasize of a better polypaint  Perhaps if it was rendered in a 3D package…

Thanks Cherub_Rock! I’m glad you’ve been reading up  It’s been getting a little lonely in this thread.

I’ll definitely clean up the textures after I hand this in for homework. I guess this will have to do for now

Here’s ā€œfinishedā€ Burke btw:

Hey everyone!

I just uploaded a quick turnaround of Burke:

(Damn YouTube for making my videos so dark!)

Will add a fancy intro and outro once I finish Ronin’s turntable (which should be tomorrow).

Let me know what you think!

I just uploaded the finished version of both Burke and Ronin’s animated turntables:

Just superb… did you model the rifle as well? In Zbrush?

Thank you!

The riflle and pistols were both modeled in MAX  I still need to work on using the new hard-surface brushes in 3.5. Can’t wait to mess around with those though!

Here are the first two shots of one of three sets. This will be a church btw.

The lighting is getting there, the set is still very much a wip.

i like your characters…very nice but pose of the small guy seems just a little bit odd due to position of arm holding cigar…Keep it up

yea pretty funky characters…very good job…Well done matey.

Thank you! I definitely agree that he looks a little funky in that pose in general. I’ll fix that  This render was more so about the preliminary lighting though, so I didn’t take a lot of in care in posing the characters.

Thank you kindly!
