robot leg - just for fun

from a project that’s taking rather long to complete, because I haven’t got enough time, even me sleeping at 5am every day…

this is to show the sheer power of the cube3D object- modelled in low poly from a hexagonal prism (made with a cube3D with a 6-sided base. you can do that by turning off horizontal and vertical smoothing, and adjusting the vertical subdivision to 6 in the tools-> modifiers-> initialize subpalette)

the sign and the airshaft holes were stencilled later, on the finished image. the stencils were derived from masks, which in turn were derived from 2D images I made inside Zbrush. all in all, I haven’t so much as touched Photoshop for this one. HA!

I’m in love with this program

Darksprite - The Art And Design Of Christos Neofotistos

my renderosity gallery

This is some great modelling Christos.
As well, some good info; I’ve not used the cube too much, if at all.
I think the texturing is excellent as well. Well done!

VERY nice. :+1:

I appreciate you taking the time to notate your thoughts and accomplishments.

Thanks C.

Nice example of the CubePower. :+1:
I’ve only used it once, to make a head. It looked like I used a sphere in the end.

Fine texture control, C! :sunglasses:
I felt what the surface would feel like, and even got a sense of the heaviness and density.
:+1: :+1: :+1:
Great job!

Very nice footwork here Chris(and the leg to)
right down to that neat symbol.

Very detailed boots! Modeling and textures!!! :+1:

hey buddy i want a script on my desk by tomorrow morning or else… just joking … love the boots and their texture… and yes i love this program too… its the best one out there for 3d… now if they can incorperate photo editing (like in photoshop)well you know …this would be the only program you would ever need

Quite some talent you have Cneofotistos …just been nosing around your Renderosity gallery. Good tips too on the modelling…I have them recorded…thanks.

DJ: You might find this thread by Southern to be very interesting to you, although the images weren’t loading because they were called from Glen’s old website. It talks about how to use ZBrush exactly like Photoshop.

As for the thead starter, what can I say, Chris? This is mighty fine modeling and a great use of the cube. So much interest gets put on the sphere that it’s easy to forget the great usefulness of the other 3D primitives like the cube. Thank you for calling our attention to that fact, and doing it so elegantly!

I can easily picture these fine footsies belonging to a Gundum (sp?).

thank you, wonderful people.

er. just thank you.

aurick> yes, I could picture that too. but you remember that asymmetric head you said you liked? it’s a new (hopefully I’m not stealing from anyone’s ideas) design, man-sized, which came to me along with an idea for a composition, so these two are intertwined. it’s a robot that despairs, and -hopefully again- not because he looks like a Macross Excaliber mech…

(yep, I’m a mech freak)

P.S. I’m off to see my gf in Athens, and I will be missing out on new Z-art and Z-culture until Friday…

I’ll be having SOME catching up to do =D
