Ring around arm

as i wrote, i have already a high poly model in zbrush which i transformed from a low poly basemesh.

i have a armor of an upper arm already and need to make sharp rings on it (following the shape of the armor).
don´t know how two cylinders could help me?

ps: the above picture is only a example to give a rough idea how the rings should look like on the armor. the armor is not 100% round like the inner cylinder in my example. it has a more organic look (if this matters).

nobody?

Wether you are going to make a picture in Zbrush or in your other app, I think the best solution would be to add the rings as seperate objects.

I’m sorry I do not understand why you want to do details like that on a model.

can u instead use other options such as Multimarkers or alpha masking? may be u can, I don’t quiet get what ur saying, am sorry hehe some of this other users are very familiar and skilled, they might be able to help u …

mhm… i thought i made it clear.

there must be a way to do some sort of small details around a object.

but ok i write it again, and please read CAREFULLY.

i have a low poly model created in max and now i have divided and sculpted it within z-brush, it looks like a knight armor and has 2000000 polys. ok so far?

now i have a piece of this armor (upper arm armor) where i need a few rings going around this steel armor with the same distance from eachother. i can not paint this with z-add because it´s a pain in the ass to get a straight line around the model. there must be a easyer way?

i think it´s not that difficult to understand what i want? the above pic is only a EXAMPLE to show how the rings should wrap around the armor.

but ok here is a better example:

why im doing this in zbrush?
because making encravings one the armor is much easyer with z-brush then doing this with max and i can use a displacement map later on my low poly model in max.

AND THEN WHY YOU DID NOT POST THE LAST IMAGE?
You dont explain clearly , you dont give thanks and also you want the user imagine what you want¡¡¡¡¡Very special¡¡¡

With Mask and some deformation like inflate, spherise etc
In your case I suppose that Zb2 can choise some facettes with some Loops ?
Pilou
Ps Cute rough

@egomaxim:

first, i say thanks when somebody helps me, not when somebody posts a picture without a single word how he has achieved the effect. thats no help at all thats some sort of “look im able to do it, you not. hehe”.

second, english is not my native language but i think i made pretty clear what i want but to many people rush through postings.
thats the problem.

@Frenchy Pilou: 1000x thanks.

and see, it looks exactly like my first example.

quote:
In your case I suppose that Zb2 can choise some facettes with some Loops ?

don´t know.
if you mean if i have created edge loops where i want these details then the answer is no. should i create edge loops there?

I don’t know how to use the masking tools yet- I think TVeyes multimarkers make polymesh3d tool would be one way to do it. see image- I do not know how to flaten the other side of the Ring3d (maybe someone will post how to do it)

yes but A little drawing explain very much than a speech
Some possibilities were possible
After your last drawing my first solution can’t be possible !
Have fun Zbrushing!

Couldn’t you just use Projection Master for this? Drop the model, draw some evenly spaced lines, and pick up with double sided on and fade off. Example:

I believe that the loop define your aera to mask with a lot of facilities !
Pilou
Zed : your method seems very good !
(I can’t try yet, waiting the Demo of Zb2)

thanks spaceman but i think that don´t help me because i have to do it on my divided and sculpted mesh.

at least i don´t know a way to merge these object into my mesh. but im VERY new to z-brush and know only how to import meshes sculpt them in edit mode and export them.

thats working like a charm.
i guess i missed something simple.
it was the double sided checkbox when dropping it to projection master.

the other way from pilou should work well too but this looks simple.

thanks again!

Glad I could help. Projection master is probably one the absolute best tools in ZB2. Ok, one of many, hehe. Lines based strokes are simple enough, but remember you can use almost any tool. For example; while the mesh is dropped you can even use your own custom 3D tools, edit them if required, place them precicely on the dropped mesh, and then pick everything up. They’re shape will be incorporated into the mesh you just picked up. May take some fiddling to get just right (thankfully undo works after a pickup), but you should be able to get any effect you desire.

Based on your drawing, I thought I’d quickly post a slightly alternative method to making rings that might give you a little more control. While you can get some very interesting results using Projection Master with the line tools (using different alpha’s and spacing makes for neat patterns in the line by the way), you could also try creating your own alpha, make it a stencil, drop the mesh using Projection Master, and paint your deformations using the single layer brush, then pick it up as stated in my previous post. Here is a quick example of painting a few lines with both Zadd and Zsub (16-bit greyscale alpha/stencil made in Photoshop):

…with Zplace you can do what you want.

I am a new guy, tell me how to do it,pls.

Uhmm, exactly what is it you would like to know specifically?
