rigging and adaptive skin [Answered]

hi

Yesterday i rigged a model and tried to transfer the level of detail using the adaptive skin method.
I proceeded as follows:

  • i create a zsphere, and select the mesh (in its lowest subdivision) from the rigging palette.
  • i rig the model and then click «bind».
  • i open the adaptive skin palette, match the density level to my model’s subdivision and then hold shift and press «preview». I am then presented with my detailed model.
  • Then i hold shift again and also press «preview» once more. The detailed model disappears and i see the ghosted low res model with the rig.
  • i start to alter the rig.
  • In order to see the effect of the altered rig, i then press «preview» in the adaptive skin palette.
  • No sculpted details are transferred.

Is there a method in zBrush that does transfer sculpted detail when using the rigging feature?
I am using 4r6 p2, an iMac with 16 gb ram.

Thanks a lot for your interest.

sincerely

You only need to hold Shift the first time you preview the high res mesh. Don’t hold Shift when switching back to the rig and just press Preview or A on the keyboard thereafter. Also, you need to sculpt the previewed high res mesh a tiny bit to get ZBrush to register it.

The method is outlined at the bottom of this page: http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/posing-your-model/rigging/

Remember that if you unbind the rig and adjust it you will have to repeat the procedure.

hi marcus

Thank you for responding so quickly. Touching the high res model in edit-mode is the key.

All the best to you.
