Rigging A Character. Nude or Clothes?

Sorry a little off Zbrush topic, but thought someone could help me with this.

I have a cartoon character I modeled and I now want to rig him for animation.
I modeled the character and clothes separate and just want to confirm that I can/should rig the character nude and add clothes to him later using a wrap deformer in maya. Has anyone done this and succeed with decent results?

Any advice on this topic would be appreciated as this is my first attempt at rigging.
Thanks,

Unless the character is going to need frequent costume changes, I prefer to rig the character in costume. This allows me to add the controls I feel I need for the costume parts at the same time.

Not to mention, if the character wears the same clothing all the time, you could greatly reduce the number of polygons computed by your animation renderer by deleting the body polygons covered by the clothing. I think.
