retopoloy issue

Hi everyone, I need a little help. And where better a place to ask.

I have retopo’d legs of a male and all is well. I then moved up to the torso and all is well. However the hands are my problem.

To make things easier I decided to hide everything but a hand as I would use the same hand, just mirror on the final stages. I then Delete hidden and save the hand out as a SubTool.

When I then select my ZSphere/Rigging/Select Mesh, which is the hand, the ZSphere is positions a long distance from the hand.

The issue is when scaling into the hand to begin retopo I can’t pan around (Rotate) the hand without it flying off the screen. I assume the scale, rotate, move are based around the parent ZSphere and that’s why I keep losing the hand.

Local doesn’t really help.

Please tell me what I’m doing wrong…

ZBrush Rocks

You can turn on Transform>Local. This instructs ZBrush to rotate around the last edited point rather than the model’s geometric center.

Alternatively, before you start retopology you could use Tool>Deformation>Unify on the hand. But this would mean that the new hand will not automatically fit on the original mesh. It would need to be scaled and moved into position manually.

Thanks aurick

The first option sounds like the perfect solution. Another trick to remember in the wonderful World of ZBrush.

Thanks again aurick, your time is much appreciated.

Hi

I just thought I’d update my issue here with regards to retopo location.

I tried Transform/Local, which didn’t seem to make any difference.

I ended up loading a ZSphere and noted the location it was dropped onto the canvas. I then loaded my hand and used the move tool to drop it to the same location the ZSphere was positioned. I then saved the hand SubTool.

I then loaded the ZSphere/Riging/Select Mesh and managed to drop the hand right over the ZSphere. This then allowed me to zoom and rotate locally around the hand.

I understand that the hand is now out of position when appending the the model, but re-positioning the hand is a small price to pay.

I’m not sure why after deleting everything but the hand when loading the hand it falls into its original position on the canvas, rather than dropping central.
