Retopology - some questions.

Is there a way to mask of certain areas of the mesh you are useing for retopolgy, particularly based on polygroups?

Yes, just use the masking and select tools like normal.

Really? I must be doing somehting wrong then.

I load my mesh, I put a Zsphere on the screen, I select my mesh in the rigging bit, I click on edit topology, and I can click on the mesh to create the new poly, but nothing I do will allow me to mask, or show/hide bits of my mesh.

What am I doing/not doing?

Yes it’s true you can’t use poly groups when re-toping. But you can mask off and hide certain areas using the lasso and selection tools. You might try re-toping parts then append them as subtools then merge, and then re-toping those together. Like you can piece them together.

Hmm I’m definately dong something wrong. I cant mask off areas of the mesh.

How I got round it was to save each of my bothersom parts as separate meshes, then once I’d started the retopology, I picked up the bit I was working on. Then when I was finshed I made sure the complete mesh ws there before projecting the displacment onto the new addaptive skin. worked a treat I have to say.
