retopology over inserted meshs?

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a leg that is a combination of what was originally 3 subtools. I deleted the lower resolutions, and then made poly 3d meshs out of each. I then selected one mesh and inserted the other two, creating one piece.

here is a pic.

My problem is, when I do the retopology over the seam where the pieces were originally separated, i get a strange artifact. it looks like the retop is seeing the geometry of piece 2 through piece 1, which is creating an odd result.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

you have a couple of options. you can either resculpt the areas that mess up, try projecting the mesh with project all instead of projection with a Zsphere (probably the same results though) or not worry about projecting the mesh down inside of Zbrush and use another program to capture normals, displacement, etc.

I personally have never gotten a projection inside of Zbrush to work correctly when you have intersecting meshes.

Thanks for the reply goast, I was able to get the projection to work by creating more detail in the retop, especially around the area of intersection, and then moving the verts out, so they are slightly off the surface.
