Retopo with HD Geometry?

Hi all,
I’m working on a creature at work and I’ve invested a fair amount of time in it. I’ve currently got two levels of HD geometry.

Problem is I’ve just found a couple of stray polys that need deleting and the verts underneath need welding. I can do this fine with the retopo tools, but I’m not sure how to reproject the HD Geometry details afterwards, or if its even possible. Any ideas?

Cheers!

Retopology can only project non-HD details at this time. Even Project All wouldn’t work in this situation.

The only thing I can think of would be to create displacement and texture maps using the HD. Then after retopology you could divide the model and apply the maps back onto it. I’m not sure if you’ll be able to keep working in HD, though. You may find that you need to split the model into a few SubTools to get the number of polygons instead. But even if you do have to do that, the maps will wrap correctly onto all the pieces.

Thanks Aurick, I’ll take a look at that. I’ve put the model into max and for what we are using it for I think we might get away without the HD levels, but I’ll give your workaround a shot anyway. Thanks for your help!

It is possible to transfer HD Geometry by splitting up your model using Nick Zuccarello’s method: http://vimeo.com/9673644
