retopo+ projection problem

hi all and good 2012 to everybody!
i have a problem with the projection function in the retopology menu:
after making my new mesh over the sculpted model, i press the projection button in the projection menu, i set presubdiv to 4 in the topology menu and then i press A button, but the only result that i obtain is a smooth subdivided mesh without the projection effect.
what wrong?
please, help me…
thanks in anvance!

try making an adaptive skin of your retopo
append that into the tool as a new subtool
subD that up a couple of times (4 you mentioned)
then use the project all function found in the subtool panel.

thank you for replying, but my problem is different. i can do what you said, but i need project details during retopology preview and i can’t at the moment.
i have tried different projection value (positive, negative) without result.
the only thing that i noticed is that the previewed mesh remains under the reference object…

i have discovered the solution!!!
the projection tool works only if you work with a reference loaded from the rigging palette!
if you use a subtool as reference for retopo, projection doesn’t work…

Hey there Xexex,

Would you mind elaborating a bit more on how you corrected this issue? I am having the same problem.

My process is as follows:

  1. Create Zsphere
  2. In rigging palette, I select the mesh I was to retopo.
  3. In the Topolog palette, I click Edit Topology and set about retopologizing my mesh.
  4. Once I am happy with the new topo, I open the projection palette, turn it on, adjust settings, and open the Adaptive Skin palette. Cranking the density up, I am still not getting any projections.

Prior to Zbrush4r2, I had no problems with this process and now after spending some time tweaking the sliders in the projection palette, I am getting a sort of blurred polypaint but that’s about as good as it gets.

I have also tried the other method mentioned where I append the new skin to the original mesh and try project all. Again, prior to r2, this method also worked fine for me but it just doesn’t seem to be working now.

What am I missing?

“the projection tool works only if you work with a reference loaded from the rigging palette!”
Is this not what I have done for step 2? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT

Ok, I’m an idiot. I just noticed I did my retopology at SubD 01 of my highres mesh so I was trying to project all details from that subD level…I love when I make things harder than they actually are. Oh well, at least it’s working now.

Hi all , thanks , I must be dense also, two different head sculps and going in circles, with projection in the retopo. I was doing the same as shay, I split up my tools and added the mesh and vuela!! Thanks again ! I may have eventually got it , after frying a few brain cells, Dale
