retopo mesh

im trying to retopologise a mesh im working on that’s already at dlvl 4.
I exported a mid lvl to do the retopology and what im trying to do now is import the retopo mesh into the first dlvl of the original mesh and still retain all the sculpted detail i’ve already got (but with the nicer topology)…

is this possible or would i have to do the retopology straight in zbrush on the first dlvl (and would this mess up the detail i’ve already sculpted?)

thanks in advance

you can project the old detail one of 2 ways. maybe 3. here is one

pull up a zsphere
go into edit
tool>rigging>select mesh (high res original)
tool>topology>select mesh (new retopo)
tool>topology>edit topology
tool>adaptive skin>turn on adaptive skin>increase level to a similar resolution as the original
tool>adaptive skin>turn off adaptive skin
tool>project>turn on project
tool>adaptive skin>turn on adaptive skin
(mesh should be projected now)
tool>adaptive skin>make adaptive skin (this is now your new mesh, it shows up in your tool panel.

second way.

open up your old high res mesh
tool>subtool>append (new retopo mesh)
select the new mesh in the subtool panel
have both meshes visible
divide the retopo mesh to a similar resolution as the original
tool>subtool>project all
if you need to transfer texture as well, turn on colorize in the tool>texture panel first.

thank you so much for that, worked perfectly (both methods ^_^)
saved for future reference
