Retopo Anomaly

Hi–
I’ve been working on a number of tutorials about retopologizing recently, and no matter whose instructions I follow, and no matter whether I’m working on Mac or Win, I end up with my preliminary mesh (the one I want to retopologize) showing up as a glowing, orange mesh. This makes it nearly impossible to see the new topology and doesn’t seem at all what I’m supposed to be seeing, but what am I doing wrong?

I’ve included a screenshot to show the effect.

Thanks for any advice!

Are you following these steps?

  1. Load the dog into the Tool palette but don’t draw it on the canvas.

  2. On a blank canvas, draw a ZSphere, then go into Edit mode.

  3. Open Rigging submenu and click Select Mesh and load the dog onto the canvas.

  4. If Ghost is on, click Transperancy button first then turn off Ghost.

  5. Open Topology submenu and click Edit Topology.

Now you can start retopo.

Thank you!

I was (silly me) loading the mesh through the “Select Topo” button in the Topology tab! It works like a charm now.
