Attached is an image of a cartoon bull. I used the lasso with Ctrl+Shift+Alt to hide and then delete the mesh just below the right knee. Problem is that the action also deletes a part of the bull’s right horn. Before selecting the part of the leg to be deleted, I cleared all masks. I have no idea why select/delete at the lower leg should cause a deletion anywhere else on the mesh. If someone can point me in the right direction toward fixing this, I would much appreciate it. FOLLOW UP: My problem was simple. I thought I had symmetry turned off but, in fact, it was on. I didn’t see it because I had the model scaled up so that only the part I was working on showed. So, when I was masking, I was actually masking more than one part of the model. Goof.
