Requesting clarification about "subtools"

Hello Everyone,

As an experiment, I wanted to see if I could take the ear off the rhino, save it as a subtool, and attach it to another model. I’m thinking Subtool Master would allow me to do that with a merge.

I used mask-hide-delete_hidden to delete all of the rhino except one ear, which I then saved as a separate ztool. I brought that tool into a new document, and I wanted to subdivide it. In the Geometry palette, SDiv was grayed-out, but the Divide button was available. However, when I hit the Divide button, the entire rhino appeared, reattached to the ear. What happened? Does what I’m trying to do even make any sense?

Thanks,
Doc Pit

that should work.
could you post up a step by step of what you’re doing. I’m guessing a step is missing, or an extra one is being used.

Thanks for your suggestion. I went through the process twice before posting, but I did it a third time, and this time it worked.

Before, I hid the rhino in sections and hit the DelHidden key after the rhino was completely hidden. This time, after I hid each section, I deleted that section. I don’t know why that would make a difference, but, apparently, it did. At least I could subdivide the ear without recalling the rhino. Now, I’ll try the rest of it. Thanks, again.
