Just upgraded to 4R6 P2 after a 2 years hiatus from ZBrush and just went through a 2 day marathon of most of the on-line tutorials on both Vimeo & YouTube and found most were very informative & to the point. However there’s still a self-inflicted barrier that I encountered the last time I worked with ZBrush that originally discouraged me away from it awaiting advancments.
I came to ZBrush with a digital painter’s mindset via Photoshop & Motion with a long-time CG-pro friend of mine whom has been my diehard advocate to get into ZBrush because of it’s abilities as a illustrator’s paint program and I wanted to see how my skills as an illustrator, digital painter would contribute to my 3D digital modeling.
My project 2 years ago involved my choosing to use the SimpleBrush tool to execute on my 12X18 Wacom some freehand digital calligraphy logos , like I’d always done, but wanted to craft this freehand illustrated lettering in ZBrush’s cast metal liquid bronze ( MatCap01 ) and was very pleased with the resultsv, but then I became frustrated with what I had created in that I could not discover why I could not convert what appeared to be 3D liquid metal calligraphic forms into an editable 3D mesh ( I now realize this was before Dynamesh which I understand was only just released 6/2013 ).
The look I’m seeking to create now is to be able to use freehand calligraphy , which is more natural & intuitive to a digital illustrator, to create a chrome 3D emblem out of the name of a model of a car like Pagani . Obviously I’m misunderstanding something here , but I can not discover a published satisfactory answer to this question. I get the part of any paint program generating a close-knit stream of ovals.
So I offer it now to you digital artists who are far more familiar with ZBrush than I. Question: Working within ZBrush am I able to produce editable 3D Dynamesh using naturally freehand drawn Illustrated Lettering calligraphy curves using the Freehand brush or do I have to craft Illustrated Lettering out of ZBrush digital clay only in order to access editable Dynamesh?
Please forgive me for my ignorance, but I have looked for an answer to how I might be able to do this amidst most of what’s already published out there on ZBRush and am left still scratching my head.
Help me, ZObi-Wan
You could start with a cube and use Shadowbox. http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/creating-meshes/shadowbox/
Pixols to 3D is also an option
I’m glad you mentioned this because I’ve been fascinated with the degree of use of freehand painted masks that become instantly editable meshes. If I turn up the level of subdivisions on the face of whatever box or flat plane I create and i’ll see just how detailed a mesh I can get and how true it will be to the original freehand brushed mask that I illustrate .This definitely gives me something to work with and thanks for the link. Will do the homework.
