Request: Allow ability to use 'shift' for straight

… brushstrokes when ‘LazyMouse’ is active.

(don’t know where to post requests other than here.)

For whatever reason, it cancels the lazymouse capacity.

I find the ability to use the lazymouse with a LazyStep of 1.0 to
be quite nice with repeating alpha’s via the Layer brush. It would
be even better to combine this power with holding ‘shift’ to allow
for perfectly (to the Camera view) Horizontal, Vertical, and
45-degree straight brush-strokes…especially when going for a
hard-surface type look.

(The actual process for me is to left-click my stroke, but not
drag, then hold shift, then take the stroke vertically, horizontally,
or in a 45-degree angle for those that are unaware of this ability)

I realize that one can put down the brush-stroke very carefully to
get reasonable straight lines, but if the ability is already built-in for
all of the other brushes to normally paint with the ‘shift’ combination
to obtain straight strokes, why not allow the lazymouse that powerful
capability as well?

Perhaps there is a work-around…if so, I’m all ears!

Thanks for considering this.

Whilst I agree that having a way of constraining the direction of the Lazy Mouse would be useful, it is possible to repeat an alpha along a straight line by using the Roll feature in the Stroke palette.

yeah i to would like to see some kind of feature that enables us to draw straight lines with out the use of projection master i wish we had the ability be able to snap to straight lines like we can in projection master with the simeple brush by holding shift snap to drawing straight lines but would there be a way to put this in realtime when your sculpting to draw straight lines in realtime just like you you can in projection master with the simple brush?

You can do this already with the freehand/dots stroke when not using the LazyMouse. Just start your stroke then hold down Shift. (Holding down Shift first will, of course, give you smooth instead.) When starting your stroke you simply need to hold down your mouse.

thanks for that tip, marcus…it works nicely, but then you are dependent on
your alpha being just right (to wrap to your desired distance from the last
stroke), and that is tricky given the radial fade of all alphas slightly washing
out the edges. It’s much easier to experiment with the LazyStroke length
than go back into Photoshop and try to get the exact sizing for your
particular alpha without getting the fade.

I’d still love for this ‘shift’ combo to be enabled with the lazymouse, as I can
see instances where it’d be nice to lay down a straight line with it, then
carry on in a more organic fashion in other areas (using the same brush
style). For instance, a rectangular rivet area that has rounded corners
(again, I know this is possible with tight attention to how straight one
lays down the stroke, but why not help the user with ‘shift’ ).

Hope Pixologic can take this into consideration. Comments, aurick?

cheers.

Aurick…any chance you can address the likelihood of this happening?

Thanks.

I can never address the likelihood of something happening. Company policy does not allow me to discuss what is planned, what might be planned, or anything like that. The reason is very simple: people tend to take what I say as being the bottom line. So if I say that something might be planned, it has a way of becoming spread about as what IS planned. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh :o <breaks out old videos of lawyers rephrasing the question for the
judge>

Perhaps let me state it another way. ( )

Given that the ‘shift’ capability to constrain a stroke to 90 degrees horizontal,
90 degrees vertical, or 45 degrees diagonal is already coded into every other
brush’s behavior…is it a valid and positive enhancement that Pixologic could
equally apply this same functionality to all the brushstrokes when using
the ‘LazyMouse’ modifier as well (and release this functionality in a
not-too-distant future release, or point upgrade)?

Thank you, your honor…nothing further.
(I can see you in your PM quarters if the answer is something that will unduly
influence the jury)
