Replacing model with identical mesh destroys stored morph

Im sculpting a head model but Im not happy with the UV layout so I have imported the same mesh with a different UV. It updates fine but I cant go back up to my highest sub d level because my base morph goes screwy the moment I switch over to it.

Is there a way around this by perhaps deleting the messed up morph and storing a new one on the newly imported model?

Well, I can only guess from the “screwy” description, since you haven’t included any images to show what that means in this case. But it sounds like the point order of your model has changed. This has nothing to do with the morph target, but is entirely something that happened in your other app.

Thanks Aurick

Ive included an image of what I mean. The image on the right shows what happens after reimporting a copy of the mesh and then switching to my morph target before I go back up the division levels from the base mesh.

This imported copy has been expoted by another app so although essentially the same I suspect its a point order thats causing the problem.

So my question is- is it possible in some way to effectively eliminate the existing morph, create a new one and then go back up the division levels and carry on sculpting?

no.

you can export out the original again, and physically go in and change the vertex order of your new mesh so that it matches the old.

or you can just unwrap it again, or copy the UV’s from point A to B. But before you do that I would do some tests on a simple object to figure out where your point order is changing.

Thanks goast…
Be nice if there was a little app that allowed you to duplicate the point order of another otherwise identical mesh…oh well!!

if you are using 3ds max, there is. its called morphix.

works very very well.

of course if you are using max 2009 or above, I don’t think this should be an issue as they have greatly enhanced their obj import exports.

I love that app.

Thanks for replying fellas…

Im on Modo here so I dont have morphix to hand sadly…

Heres hoping Modo will have something similar one day!
