Repetetive actions (answered)

Is there a way to draw a 3d object on the screen, snapshot it, move it a specific distance and direction and then, with a hotkey, repeat the snapshot and move operations again. I’m aware of using the 1 key to repeat a stroke but this seems to work only with brushes. I’d like to record a series of actions to be repeated.

All you need to do is record a macro. Make sure your model is at the ‘start’ position. Press Macro>New Macro to start recording and don’t initialize ZBrush when you get the dialog. Snapshot the model and then move it. Then stop the recodring by pressing Macro>End Macro. Save the file to your Macros>Misc folder and then press Macro>Reload All Macros. A new button will appear in the Macro>Misc menu which you can assign a hotkey to.

Marcus,

Thanks. I was hoping there was something easier (love pressing the “1” key).
I know the “2” and “3” hotkeys are supposed to “replay all recorded strokes” and “record stroke”, respectively, but I can’t figure out how to make them work.

You can do it that way but you would have to snapshot the model each time:

  1. Snapshot the model (Shift+S).
  2. Press ‘3’ to start recording.
  3. Move model.
  4. Press ‘3’ to stop recording.
  5. Snaphot model.
  6. Press ‘2’ to repeat move.
  7. Snapshot.
  8. Repeat (6) & (7)…

Note that stroke recording records all canvas moves - sculpting, rotating, moving, etc.

HTH,
