Render size, only by document resize?

Having only worked with Zbrush for a few weeks… I’ve heard that the way to resize the output is by changing the document size… but i’m thinking there has to be a better way.

I love Zbrush, but this is frustrating me:
I have a scene with high poly model, and it renders great with a generic output. Now that I have exactly what i want, with lighting, material, etc. I go to document and change the size to 2400x1800 and click resize.

I loose the 3D object. So I have to drag it back on the stage. This requires re posing the object, etc. And now the lighting is treating the object different. I no longer am getting the awesome SSS i had before - yet the material is still the same. the lights are the same.

Is there any better way to simply render a higher resolution output within ZBrush? I dont want to have to change my enter scene each time I want a new render size.

if you dont want to change the scene again just store a custom view under zapplink>cust1

Thanks!

So if I store a custome view, will that also store the document size? I’ll try this when I get home.

I just want to make sure i can save the object placement, but change the doc size at will.

custom view only saves the position. so if u have your model posed and facing a certain angle… save it’s view as cust 1… clear canvas… make it the size you want for exporting… load tool… switch to edit mode… click cust 1 again

only way i know of to tie document size to a model is to save it as a project instead of just a ztl. (File > Save)

what i do to save myself a tremendous amount of time redoing my document and render settings.

set up all your settings the way you’d want for working on mesh… clear the canvas… lood a simple startingcube or something similarly lowpoly… save the project

switch your settings to what you want for rendering… save as a seperate project

as long as you have your views saved and a project starting point for your various document times… you can switch back and forth between settings in seconds instead of constantly fiddling with things and you at least can be assured with renders that everything you do with you render settings will follow the same basic setup or at the very least give you a good starting point for them

Thanks very much!

Those are great ideas. I was just used to other apps where you simply change the output size in the render options. But what you said is a workable workaround.

Thanks again!

You can use a marker:

  1. Position your model.
  2. Press the M+ (Mark Object) button in the Marker palette.
  3. Resize your canvas. For best results leave the Document>Pro button on to keep the same proportions. Clear the canvas Ctrl+N.
  4. Click on the marker to reposition your model.

The marker is placed at the pivot point of the model. It’s worth having some idea where this is because the marker can be tricky to find on a large canvas. Setting the cursor draw size to 256 helps. The marker will show as a gray square when the cursor is over it and an arrow will appear when the its at the center.
