I love your renders, they have a cool vibe that really add lots of texture to the sculpts. Would love to see a breakdown of your render method.

Thanks, I can say that I haven’t taken the same approach with a single piece that I have made. I have, kinda narrowed it down a bit. Since I didn’t save all of the WIP files or screen grab the whole process I can explain a bit.
I basically did multiple render passes in Zbrush with various materials and light positioning. I saved each pass to a working folder to compile in Photoshop as separate layers. For color choices I would create a Hue/Saturation layer and mask out the portions I want to change color. Since the brushes are laggy in PS I would open the PSD in Sketchbook to paint skin textures with various texture brushes and then go back to PS to add Dust and Scratch images (which I Googled) as layers over the work as an effect.
Not the best breakdown, but will save my progress on the next project to demonstrate that better.
Working on this guys facial detail and moving towards the rest of the body.
Previous works on bases. Currently designing individual spacecraft to fit each creatures style to use as bases.
Having fun with this creature. Wanted to see if I could make a dynamic underwater scene with this guy. The dragon is done in ZBrush and post in Photoshop.
nice thread you got going on, I like the sea dragon and environment.
I’m also making a sea dragon to add as minion/companion for my sea creature/guardian, good to see your composition
Thanks rjsmal!!! Been having fun with mashing elements from photos together to make a scene.

He can survive in space, land, water. Extrasensory receptors, mechanoreceptors, thermoreceptors, chemoreceptors and nociceptors… Aside from the general receptors he can absorb his environment.
I used the project settings from Kurt Papstein’s MonsterConcepts_Final to get a cool render:
