relief details

Hey all,

a couple of weeks ago now i saw a thread on the forums about how to get the best amount of detail from decorative details such as you'd find on a relief. Say something like this;

http://www.chidi.com/images/sculpture/conversationcopy.jpg

The example given on the thread was just of some decoration but the process was of creating an alpha from the ref image, then pulling the details out of a plane and then this is where my memory skips a gap. I believe the next step was appending that plane to a sphere which made some kind of cleaner topology? Then that was divided and baked into a seperate plane to get nice lovely normal detail.

Could anyone assist as I've searched and even gone through alot of the threads by hand looking for this of if this can't be found does someone have that missing step? Cheers Dan

P.S. i love all your work!

Hey Dan,

this should sort you out: http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/products/tutorials/nzu_series/

check the Using Photos as Displacements.

It’s not free, but it’s from Nick Zuccarello a guy that contributes a lot to the ZB community, so he deserves every penny :smiley:

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the link, not bought it yet but seems like its exactly what im looking to do, if anyone can remember the link from this forum tho that would be great too, its one of those situations where i thought i’d bookmarked it and gone to look at it later to find my mind is slowly letting me down. If i manage to pull off what im trying to do ill post the results.

cheers again!
