Refract question 2 (answered)

I see that my previous question is already marked as Answered (so no one will be looking to answer an additional question in that post), so I guess I will post a new thread to ask another question:

I checked out the ZBrush documentation. Page 118 talks about the Transparency settings, but doesn’t say exactly how to use them. Here is what I did in ZBrush 3: 1) Selected the Jellybean material, 2) Select the Sphere 3D tool, 3) Set the RGB intensity to 5, 4) Transform palette -turned “Quick” off, 5) Drew a ball. 6) Dragged the ball around and the underlying drawing distorted. —How am I supposed to do it in ZBrush 4? Nothing distorts no matter how I tweak the Transparency/Refract settings under the Render menu in ZBrush 4.

There is a Best Preview Render video under the Feature List tab, which goes through making materials transparent. Not sure if it answers your question though.

Thanks for replying. I went to the web page you suggested, clicked on the Features list tab, but all I see are four images. I don’t see any video. What am I missing?

There are links to 25 videos on the Feature List tab. Maybe refresh the page if it doesn’t load properly.

I tried going to the web page with two different web browsers (I reset the browsers which included emptying the cashes etc.). Here is a screen shot of that web page - Were are the videos ? Screen shot.JPG

Are you sure you have Javascript enabled in your browsers?

Thanks for your screen shot. I now see what I am missing. I don’t now why I cant see the video links - I have re-set (errased cashes etc) Safari multiple times and have everything (plug-ins, Java, Java script, etc) turned on for both Safari and Firefox- but no video links. I wonder if any other Mac people are having the same problem or if it’s just me. Oh well.

Is there an actual URL for the “Making things Transparent” video that someone can copy and post for me?

Wether or not the video covers the Refracting option, could someone please do like I did at the top of this thread, and give me the 1-2-3 steps for creating a transparent ball that includes the Refract setting like I could do in the ZBrush 3 version? I’ll start you off (of course if you have a better way to start - please erase my 1 & 2):

  1. select the sphere 3d tool
  2. select the jelly bean material
    3)…

Thank you for all your help

Pixologic Youtube Channel - All the videos are here.

Best Render Preview video - This one covers the transparency and refraction.

Thank you for the Youtube link. that is a great site. I checked out the Transparancy video and learned a lot. I am able to get the refraction that I want etc.
