ref subtools moving

hi im trying to move one of my subtools into position and when i move it, it deforms it as if im editing it, when i try to rotate one end moves the other stays put,

what am i doing wrong, is there a way to move the subtools as a whole?
instead of moving bit by bit

please help:)

thanks

look into transpose.

also look into subtool master (free plugin)

thanks for that, but by the looks of things this shows how to mask an area and move the rest to a different position, i wanna move or rotate the whole subtool. 1 at a time but when i do they get moved and reshaped:)

any ideas please

I’m guessing you’re not using the transpose line correctly. If you could post an image of the problem that would help with the solution.

hi i cant add a pic as i have to create my tools from scratch and then when i close zbrush because i cant do it i loose all my work, so i will explain in a little more detail.

for example when i make say a pair of lips, and try and move the sub tool in the spot its meant to go at the bottom of a face, i go to move it and the top lip will move but the bottom stays still, so it then becomes deformed as if im molding it.

i hope that explains the problem im having:)

and advice would be great, transpose allows you to pivot a part of the model connected to a different angle, i wanna move the whole sub tool , as one into position but i cant do it:(

Thanks In Advance

If no portion of the SubTool is masked, the TransPose allows you to move the whole SubTool.

As for saving your work, just use Tool>Save As. This lets you save your model so that you can edit it later. Use Tool>Load when you start your next session.

I was having a similar problem. I found that it was happening because Activate Symmetry was on in the Transform menu.

if you see two action lines rather than just one this may be your problem.

I have the same problem, i’m trying to make a back board with some letters i made in zbrush in front of them…so i’m placing the letters, in front of the board but then i notice that the board is intersecting with the letters. so i try to move the back board, back in space a bit…and only certain portions of the board are moving. its quite strange. there are no masks, it tride tPose master but no luck, still same thing parts of the board are moving rather than the entire thing.

I have the feeling the problem has something to do with how big the scale is, since i modelled the board in maya, and it was moderately sized within the grid. But i made the letters using zspheres, so they were inherintly a Lot bigger than the board i modeled.

So after making the letters i scaled up the board. (easier than scaling the letters one by one.

any help, should i just work around this? or is there any way to remedy the situation.

look inside of
tool>preview

everything should fit within this window well. The backboard anyway.
Scale is a major issue with transpose.

thanks goast,

after scrubbing the forums a bit more closely i came across a thread, where aurick replied, to the same effect.

basically transpose can only handle so much as far as how BIG your scale is.

thanks for the help.

Luckily the scene is pretty simple and i can just export the the entire scene to maya and just position and scale there.

but i understand that this could throw a kink in a pipeline in a not so simple scenario.

so to all who come across this , keep your scale in mind.

switching gears slightly tho:

is there any way to better manage zsphere scale?
