Reduce ZBrush Startup Time TREMENDOUSLY & Custom 500 Mat Browser!

Ok, i’ve now noticed that the primary Startup time killer is the amount of materials in your ZStartup\Materials Folder!! :grimacing:

Having so many Materials also screws up your ZBrush because the Material window is not big enough! You can't even Scroll either, your Top Row Materials are cut off above your screen!

Now, I like to have all 300+ Materials at my disposal, but This startup time is killing me, and I can't see all of them Properly anyway

<u>So, here's a way to fix this Material Browser Problem, and Make your ZBrush Start up like a Fox on steroids:</u>

- Download the "Materials Mega pack 500" Plugin. It's got useless materials but you can replace them all with your Own, Professional Looking Materials!

(Link to Mega Pack 500)

- Delete all the ones that come with the plug-in (in ZPlugs\MegaPack2Data), and rename your own collection to "MP1.zmt" ...to... "MP500.zmt" (You may also use less if you don't have 500) and copy those to ZPlugs\MegaPack2Data

Google for a re-naming program to do this for you (I used "[ReNamer](http://www.snapfiles.com/get/denrenamer.html)") as it's much easier

The browser is Super cool, Fast, and you can press "5" to access it when needed.

I now have 0 materials in my Materials Folder and my ZBrush Starts up like a Dream! Plus you get a Kick-Ass Material Browser!

Hope you guys like this Tip :+1:

err…am I the only one that didn’t know of this?

To Pixologic:
I hope you guys implement a system like this in 3.5, where ZBrush doesn’t load all the Materials into memory at startup, but rather as you use them…or whichever way the MegaPack 500 Plugin loads them - I still can’t believe how fast my ZBrush starts up now! Also add scrollbars for more materials.

Old way: up to 20 secs startup time with ± 100 Materials :-1:

New Way: about 4 seconds startup time with 300+ Materials :+1:

So if your ZBrush takes a while to load, look into the amount of materials you have installed, it makes a HUGE difference!!

I’m stunned that you could actually worked that way  After uploading around 20 mats into my startup folder I’ve noticed that the Load button didn’t function any more so I immediately installed the plugin and have been using it for a long time now… same goes for the Alphas

but putting stuff into Startup folder is not a fault of Zbrush so I’m surprised you’re complaining about it loading for so long. They’re not there by default - it’s you who’s put them there

Yes of course they aren’t there by default:lol:

but what i’m saying is, IF you want to add more materials, that it is much better to use the plug-in as it not only works great, but it Removes that long waiting time for Zbrush to Start up.

My ZBrush starts up almost instantly now

Pixologic should make ZB 3.5 act this way by default!
