Redbeard's Sketchbook

Hello, very great model, maybe you can explain how you get that smooth final model? This is molded and casted model or 3d printed?

Just finished up my Sk8 Croc for the pinshape Character Design Challenge with Formlabs. Had a lot of fun with this, and even made it free to download and print if you are so inclined. Here is the link to check out the files: https://pinshape.com/items/32816-3d-printed-sk8-croc

You can also rewatch my modeling process here:

Nice work… And the stream was fun… :slight_smile:

Cheers…

Lovely to see Mr Croc up close:+1:
Really enjoyed your live stream.

This is an original character design I made for a tutorial for 3D World Magazine April Issue. There is a full 5 page spread on my process on how to utilize hard surface modeling into character design. Had a lot of fun with this one, more or less turned out to be a kind of self portrait… Enjoy!

absolutely AWESOME! did you recorded the process for the cowboy model? would you mind explaining how was the rendering process? LOVE your stuff man!

@guztaluz
Yes I did record the process which is part of the project files you can download for free when purchasing the magazine. It is only a timelapse of my process but I have written instructions on the whole modeling process. As far as the rendering goes I go into a simple explanation of how to set up custom lights in keyshot.

This is the result of a weeks worth of lunch crunches. I really wanted to test out having some more realistic textures for skin while still feeling stylized without looking freaky. But mainly I just had a lot of fun working from the concept by the amazing Corey Smith, https://www.artstation.com/artwork/ARvly
I made a few new alphas for this one to help get the results I wanted like the freckles and the eye alphas, and then used a alpha pack from xyz textures.

And for those of you who get discouraged, just look at this picture. At some point in nearly everything I make, I want to stop because it is the worst thing I have ever done. Just push on through!

Happy Sculpting!!!

Beautiful piece!

What did you use for rendering?

El Corazón De Muerte
First she wins your heart, then she crushes it!

Signature move: La Rompecorazón

Walk Out Music: Mägo de Oz, Hasta Que el Cuerpo Aguante

//Better late then never. Finally finished the render of my original character “La Corazón de Muerte”
I made this character for a demo I did at the CTNx this year.
So let this be a good start for 2018, I’ve got some big plans for this year!
Happy New Years everyone!

Rendered in Keyshot?

Looks Great. Any Breakdowns?

thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing what you have for us this year.

Thanks

@selahpoetic

Yes! Rendered in Keyshot. I’ll post some process images tonight on this thread.

Here are some simple breakdown images of how I made El Corazon de Muerte
An original concept that I made.

I use a simple light set up to get the right mood that I use with the HDRI lighting that Keyshot uses. I mainly use Area Lights as they have a much softer fall off.

Here are some close ups of some of the details. I particularly like how the pattern turned out with the use of different Keyshot materials.

Thanks @truubluu!:smiley:
