Rect Mask

Hi all,

I’m extremely new to zbrush and have a pretty basic question to ask (to get things started…) I’m trying to draw out an alpha mask using the Rect brush using radial symmetry. When I release the mouse it projects the alpha to the back of the object (in this case a cylinder) and back onto the surface facing me as an upside down copy - no good to me!

I’ve used the drag brush which is ok but I find the mask opacity fades as it goes around the corner.

Are there any settings which determine how far the alpha will project?

Many thanks

JD

hide the geometry that would be masked. If it isn’t visible, it can’t be masked.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your speedy reply!

What i’m trying to create is the tread on a tyre that I modelled in Maya. I’ve inported the obj and created the tread alpha in photoshop that I want to make a polygroup out of and create a panel loop.

I then try to mask out using radial symmetry as I want the alpha to repeat itself around the tyre at regular intervals - if I hide the geometry, then the pattern wont repeat itself as desired?

Apologies if i’m being slow on the uptake - this is my first attempts at Zbrush and I am finding my feet a bit… Thnx for your help!

All these settings have to be done while holding down Ctrl.

Thanks Zber,

Just tried altering the mask curve as below using the DragRect stroke and it worked a treat.

Just out of interest is it possible to use the normal rect stroke without it projecting through to the back - I quite like its resizing capabilities.

Thanks again!

No, it’s not possible. The Rectangle, Circle, Curve and Lasso strokes will all project to the other side. All you can do with those strokes is hide the back, as already suggested by beta_channel.
