Recover file that crashed on save?

hello guys I’ve read a few threads to do with zbrush crashing during a save… my question… is it possible to recover a zbrush file that crashed mid save and now every time I reopen the zbrush crashes on loading my tool…?

I do have other saves which take me back a few saves but did some great work and don’t want to loose including a retopo…

any ideas…

I am running a laptop 3gb ram/ duel core/ acer aspire
can and will upgrade to 4gb and thinking about going to 64 bit os wonder if this may help or if the problem is with the file?

I was definitely pushing my poly count limit at about 5million
and when it was saving I clicked yes to saving a alpha then the crash occurred now every time I load the file it instantly crashes…?

getting back a corrupted file. nope, gone for good.

avoiding that in the future…save in iterations (you said you did, but you did some good work…) save often! how often…all depends. I can’t stand to do more than 15min of rework if I crash. I have an alarm clock running that makes a noise every 15min so I know to save.

Always save at your lowest subD
always save without masks on
always save with all polygons visible

hmm…that’s about all I’ve got

the alarm is a great idea thanks goast!
painful loss about 4hrs work of a figure head built into a saddle for the dragon which had some intricate Celtic knot work…

and makes me think then save i have has the basic saddle form and the only saving grace is that I know the repeat time I will be faster as I know where i am headed and that on other occasions that I have lost work to a crash my second run is usually stronger… after that a third run ain’t no good though but fifteen mins is not painful at all…

your advice will be used goast thanks…

Yeah, i don’t think you can rescue yor files. Would be great though if someone know something since I encounter corrupt files almost daily. But since I save every 5-10 minutes it usually isn’t that bad even if my usual 8 million poly mesh takes a bit of time. But for that kind of geometry I don’t really accept the necessity for subtools since I am loosing more time having to deal with the seams then saving my files regularly and restarting Zbrush twice per hour.

someone out there knows something for sure!!! I would love to recover it…

looked around and for anyone with the same save problem I found this link to a highly rated and safe computer alarm program freeware so now every ten mins my computer tells me to save and then I click snooze and get busy again…
