Reconstruct lower subdiv doesn't work! (how to get rid of triangles?)

Currently I have only two subdivision levels of my model:
Subdiv 1 with roughly 8k polys and Subdiv 2 with 36k polys.
Problem is that I need lower subdivision levels in order to UV-wrap in roadkill later on. 8k is way too much and UV-wrapping that will be extremely time-consuming.

Now I’ve tried going to subdiv 1 and pressed “reconstruct subdiv” but nothing happens!!! There must be a way to create new ones besides that button, or isn’t there? :frowning:

I have activated Tool>Texture>EnableUV and tried reconstructing but it cancels because there are triangles. What should I do now? I can’t UV-wrap an 8k poly model. My workflow:

Made zsphere model
Made adaptive skin, quality 3
Did a retopology which took AGES
Made a 3d mesh

and now it’s complaining about triangles. Im starting to panic because this work is for school and I have until next friday to create a fully hi-poly model, texture it and render it. And now it seems that I just wasted 2 days on retopology :frowning:

only option i can think of is to go back to your retop version and make sure you don’t have triangles then make the adaptive skin and use projectall to transfer your detail between the two.

Okay well I guess thats the best way. Problem is there are so many verticles - over 18k. Is there a way to auto-check for triangles when Im in edit topo mode?

EDIT: When Im doing the retop again looking for triangles I switch between adaptive skin mode back and forwards (A button). Does I have to make sure there are no triangles in the adaptive skin mode as well or just make sure the verticles in retop mode dont make triangles?
