really noob question, aologies

Hi, been using ZBrush for a day
have been trawling the video tutorials and FAQ, and am still stuf on something.I realise this is a huge noob question, but I’m stuck.

I’ve been modeling a dragons head, what I’d like to do is put two spheres in the head as sub-objects for eyes. If I ‘append’ the subtools and add a 3dsphere, I cal move it to the correct place in the dragons skull, is there any way of using symetry to put this on the other side of the skull?

thanks in advance.

  1. Append the first eye and use TransPose to move it into position. Then press Tool>Clone.

  2. Now select the clone in the Tool palette and use the Mirror deformation on it.
  3. Finally, select your first eye SubTool and click Tool>Geometry>Insert Mesh. Select the mirrored clone, which will now be merged into the current SubTool

thanks for the quick reply. Appriciated.
I’m still struggling

I load my dragon, I select ‘subtool’ then click ‘append’, then select ‘sphere3D2’ from the startup meshes.
This puts a large sphere into the scene, you can see the dragons nose sticking out of it  , and adds the sphere3D2 to the subtool pallette, below dragon.
I click on scale, and get an action bar across the sphere, however if I now select the end cirle and move it , the dragon scales and not the sphere.
The subtool menu shows the sphere highlighted (the ‘eye’ is brighter)

I’m obviously doing something wrong,

I know I’m being a noob, I’m sorry

If I select the sphere so that its name is in black on the subtools menu, The dragon dissapears and I can select scale, and scale it, but no acton line appears. However when I then go to move it , I select move, but I just end up dragging verts around on the surface of the sphere.

I have managed to move the dragon around the sphere, I’m just getting myself confused. Still its only day 2!

Is there a tutorial (vid) that shows putting in sub objects and moving them that I could see. Many thanks again for your answer.

Here’s documentation for TransPose: http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Transpose

And here are video tutorials: http://www.pixologic.com/zclassroom/homeroom/ If you go to the bottom of the page, there’s a tab for TransPose

thanks again for the reply, i am now studying the manual!
I managed to get the eye in and mirrored it, I then created a horn for him and appened it as a sub tool. But after I cloned it I tried to mirror it and I get the error message ‘this function cannot be applied to a mesh with multiple subdivision levels’

further to my last post, deleting the lower geometry allowed me to mirror the horn. Reading the manual helps you know! I wont bother you for a week promise  thanks again, its a fantastic software app.
