Really low res dynamesh result issue

Seems like I can never get dynamesh to work the way I see others use it. I’m doing a hard surface sculpt right now and whenever I try to use dynamesh I end up getting unusable low resolution mesh from dynamesh.

I am using a work flow with retopologize and dynamesh much like what is described in this thread.

Problem is whenever I turn on dynamesh it destroys my mesh into a low res puddle mess of polys and it doesn’t seem to matter whether the dynamesh resolution is at 128 or 1024 the result seems to be about the same.

I’m sculpting and then pulling out details with retopologize subdividing and polishing then I set dynamesh to 1024 resolution and freeze subdivision levels and I end up getting a mesh that looks like its only a hundred polys or so. What is going wrong here?

Thanks for any help.

I’m having the same problem. I’m able to remesh details with Dynamesh well at first. Then all of a sudden the resolution is cut in half! I’m not understanding why this is happening. PLEASE HELP!

Hi there,

don’t know if this helps but I will give it a try. Helping others always helps yourself when you are a beginner
(Screenshot etc. as requested would maybe cause in more answers?)

Dynamesh resolution has two factors as I know.

-First= the slider below dynamesh button.
-Second= size of mesh.

The mesh triangulation is relative to size! The standard Dynamesh64 Sphere from project folder has around 11.000 points at 64 resolution.
If you resize it five times up to 100 in the “deformation” “size” menu and choose dynamesh after one stroke again, point number wil go to 2,6 Mil!
Still 64 resolution.

  • there are different option for dynamesh.
Reprojected dynamesh will cause in a much more accurate result
setting blur to 0 (2 is default) is not bad for hardsurface.

Subdividing is a different story. I haven’t understand how to use subdivision and dynamesh in a good way.

Ok so if its a size issue how can I scale all of my subtools at once?

Resizing everything like 350 up has helped a LOT. I can’t figure out how my model was so small in the first place. Think I’ll start my tools in the future by appending a zsphere and starting with that to get the scale right.
