reality issues

Hello everybody!
After strugling to learn the means of 3d sculpting this is my first attemt for rendering and afterworking a picture.
I used a tutorial from the “Practical manual” about a warior scene and did some final touches in photoshop.
Though, i seem to be loosing something in it…something just keeps holding the picture out of reality and i can’t quite define the problems in it.

I would realy apreciate any coments on it.

Thanks in advance …

Hi giorgo,
I think two things pop out most to me: the background/environment is too bright and oversaturated. Ideally, you would comp the sculpt into a photo
plate for a grounding in ‘reality’. Second, and every bit as important, he has
no hair. Even some stubble and eyebrows will go a long way to selling the shot.

The model looks good, and the texturing ain’t half bad either, so my advice would be to work on:

-Lighting
-Environment
-Hair

Thanks for the comments…i think sooner or later i will have to deal with the issue i ve been avoiding and havent yet worked at all “HAIR” . I’ll post the update as soon as i put my “Hair” together.
Be well !

Also, look at the contrast in the skin vs the armor. The skin is probably closer to blending in with the environment you have in the background. The armor looks a little too contrasty to fit in. Even though the sun would be the main light source, there would be light coming from all directions at lesser intensities. A couple filler lights would help. You might need to mess around with the skin material to compensate for the other lights.

Even though these are things to think about, this is still a great first attempt.

Actualy there is alot to be done in blending in all materials with the enviroment that they coexist…
Thanks for the comment!

Beaten now but not for long…

…any idea about how to put hair and eyebrows on this guy…most of my efforts using zadd with some alpha reminding the shape off hair were a reason for big laughs . The fiberbrush makes him look like grasshead…maybe i dont put the right settings…???..HELP!!!

Giorgosv: If he isn’t going to be animated and will be an illustration, just paint the hair in Photoshop. If you have Photoshop CS, then you can use the Dave Nagel’s brushes which are free and can be downloaded here:

They work quite nicely and are easy to use.

Have fun!

Aded the eyebrows but hair doesnt please me on him (everything i tryed made him look like a man willing to hide his boldness…).
I tryed to follow some advise about light and material and making the contrast having a reason to exist.
Hope you like it…

Further comments are more than welcome… they are expected impatiently !

And a silly question…how can i make the image apear WITH the text and not as an attached file ??? (I am also new in the computing domain…)

You really did a great job on his face and the skin. The new background is kinda psychedelic. I don’t quite understand your question about text?

I think i sorted it out. I coundn,t make the picture apear with the text in the posts i uploladed and making a shortcut for a reference to a specific page of this gallery. (excuse me for making a masacre of the language…)

need more darks
New Bitmap Image.JPG
the entire image has alot of different lighting systems
background, head, armor.
make all 3 blend with the same ammount of lights and darks.
…also he looks like he just died from eating too many mushrooms:(
if he’s a warrior give him a kingdom or a gory war background.
