Hey guys!
Just wanted to share some real-time MAX viewport screengrabs of a dragon I am currently working on.

No diffuse or spec texture as of yet. Just the mesh with a normal map
Feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks

great work
Thank you very much!
Fox, I like it but I don’t at the same time. More to the point, I’m not a huge fan of the face - well, the circular bits that are on the face. What are they meant to be exactly? Ears? Just a design? There’s quite a few and they don’t seem to follow any particular form that would suggest their purpose. Put bluntly, they’re distracting for me.
Other than that, and whatever’s going on with the tail, I like where you’re going with it. I think you could pay a bit more time detailing but I’m not sure how far or how close you are from your goal for the beast. It could well be you haven’t even started yet.
At anyrate, I know you have the skill to turn this into a thing of real beatuy so I’ll leave you to it!
Thats Badass
Great looking sculpt! I like your detail work and subtle skin textures. There are a few points that I think you could touch up:
-The normal map in general; its nothing to do with the sculpt, just the export on the map. On the scales behind the head and plates on the neck look like the edges are tearing a little bit, again I’m sure its not the scupt, just the map creation or export.
-The tongue looks too smooth. I don’t know if you just haven’t done that yet or you intend on it being very smooth, but I would assume a dragon or huge reptile creature would have a very interesting and detailed mouth cavity.
Its looking great!!! Keep it up!!
Looking Good
@ Sparky, Turner: Thank you very much!
You guys are too kind!
Thanks Teyon!
I agree about the tail, I simply ran out of texture space for it. So the poly’s are a way to squashed in the map. I am going to try and tweak my UVs and rerender the normal map
As far as the circles on the dragon’s head go, they are actually sacks that will expand and contract when he breathes fire. Kind of like a frog’s throat or an elephant seal’s nose.
Thanks so much for the pointers! I was planning on cleaning the map up, but I did not get around to it but you are definitely right about the tearing. As far as the tongue (and whole mouth region for that matter) goes, I haven’t even begun to touch that
More updates soon though!
