Re-topology, Projection errors

Hi, could anyone tell me why these errors occur?
while re-topologising a model I use projection & Pmulti and play with the settings to get it right. But I almost always get chunks of broken bits, are they caused by the lack of polygons in the area, to many or a bad layout?
I know they’re fairly easy to fix but didn’t know if that would mess up the topology I just put down.

If this is happening during retopology, try adjusting the Tool>Projection>Projection Strength and ProjectRange sliders. That may help.
