Hi all, i’m fairly new to zbrush and although i don’t mind retopologizing my
sculpts, i’m interested if applications such as topogun,3d coat etc, are worth the
money (and time to learn them) or should i just soldier on using zbrush.
Also, it would be interesting to hear about the pro’s and cons of such applications.
I really like the retopo tools in 3DS Max 2010, but I’ve used the tools in ZBrush before and liked them, too. I’ve heard great things about Topogun. If I was in your position, I would do a trial run on something really basic with both ZBrush and Topogun’s free trial. If Topogun works a lot better for you, it’s not that expensive. 3D Coat is another whole modeling package, so I don’t think it would be wise to go to the expense of buying a whole program to just use one part of it.
I learned how to retopo in ZBrush with Scott Spencers excellent book, ZBrush Character creation. I don’t know is the retopo tools have been updtaed much in 4.0, but that book is good as a general approach to sculpting form and using ZBrush.
Ya know I can’t find any re-topology tutorials for Maya:(. Thinking about Topogun myself.
you can try NEX for maya. but it’s really not really as good as 3ds max polyboost.
I am using Topogun myself and its sooo easy and nice to work with! Timesaver and really good with heavy OBJs. Workflow is perfect!
I have to mention that i took me … like, a couple of hours to learn my way working with the program. Really simple and easy!
Hey Pimeto, I’ve just downloaded topogun (its a demo version) and i’ve tried to
open up an obj file of a sculpt, and all its showing is a silhouette of the model.
I’m probably doing something incredibly stupid but i cant seem to figure it out,
even by looking at various tutorials. Any hints would be very much appreciated.
Can you show a screen of what it looks like ?
Are your normals facing the right direction ?
Sigh4, make sure “view mesh” is checked under the view tab.
