Re: problem with multiple subtools

This has been an ongoing problem for a while now.

The problem is projecting high res sculpt, along with polypaint information (with multiple subtools) to a single low poly mesh.

For example… I have a game character with pants, shirt, armour, shoes, etc. All with hi-res sculpt, and polypaint detail > I create a low poly game mesh > import into Zbrush > project all > PROBLEM!

After projecting from first subdivision, I move to the 2nd, third, fourth, etc…
The details transferred to the new low poly mesh is All wrong. Areas like the belt and shoes are not projected properly. You can see half of the shoes, belt shirt projected. Not very clean!

It usually works fine when I’m only dealing with one subtool. Only when I deal with multiple subtools

Is there something I’m missing here?

Nope. It is the nature of the beast…as it were. It is one of the main reasons that I don’t project in Zbrush. You’re typically better off baking in another application unless you want to do a lot of clean up inside of Zbrush.

im on mac os

what package do you suggest?

windows or linux

On a Mac, any other 3D app that will bake. I use Modo (mac native) and xNormal (windows only) to bake with. You can also give nearly anything else a try, Maya, Max, XSI, etc.

Depending on your hardware you may need to decimate your meshes before you send them to another package though.
