Random crashes issue

Hi everyone,
While working within ZBrush 4 and now 4R2, it freezes a Windows cursor appears (the one that tells it’s thinking) and Zbrush closes without any error message. I occurs randomly at any time on any tasks.
I have Windows 7 64-bit.

Anyone had the same issue or know what causes this?

Thank you!

Have you changed your compact mem settings to higher than the default? That would be my first guess.

Yes i did, but I noticed that when I do a change in the software folder (like removing/adding a material) it tends to crash less often before crashing again the next day… very weird. It seeams the crash is very random, at work we are two on five to have this issue…

Hmmm… Interesting. Are you using any custom brushes, UI or scripts? In version 4 I noticed that if I was using brushes or scripts made in 3.5 it would cause crashes. I ended up just remaking them in 4. It doesn’t seem to be a problem for me going from 4 to 4.5 however.

If you are, I would try copying all the custom stuff temporarily somewhere else and then initializing ZB and see if you get any crashes.

Troubleshooting is such a pain!

Yes I have a custom UI, but my team mate who has the crash too have no custom UI. But I’ll try it anyway, I’ll let you know.
Thanks for your help!

I tried to remove every custom stuff I had and it still crashes, after some research it seems it related in some way with meshes. When I start from a ZBrush primitive it never crashes, but when I work on tools imported from max, it crashes randomly. Maybe it is related to OBJ format and the settings I used. I’ll try with a new OBJ and make some more research. Thanx for the help

Thanks for posting and update. I am interested to see what you find.
