Ram upgrades and ZBrush settings.

Hi everyone!
Hya ZBer!!!

I recently doubled the ram in my computer from 4gb to 8gb (annoyingly the maximum I can have) and I never thought to ask, do I need to change anything in ZBrush or will it notice that the OS is no longer in its way and grab what it likes?
It is able already to do more which is wonderful but I wonder if there are settings that would make it even more happy.
One must feed the hungry ZBrush!

Cheers!

Hi Mealea

If you have a 64 bit OS, see auricks suggestions here.

Thanks ZBer!
I do have 64bit, and its Windows Seven.

Where Aurick says: “Compact Mem should usually be set to 1,000 less than your available RAM up to a maximum of 4096”. I have that currently set at 256, does this mean I need to set it to 4096?

GRIN!
I have no clue what I’m doing…

As usual!

Hi again Mealea,

Yes, definately set it to 4096.

Thanks again!
Its set now.
Am I correct in thinking that this could help with switching out of ZBrush while its doing things that take a while?
Some times it refuses and while I love counting hours by watching progress bars i also sort of like doing other stuff like checking the clock (GRIN!).

I am still amazed at how much of a difference the upgrade has made, I guess the OS and video card were eating a fair amount of memory and now I don’t have to worry about that as much.
What I do have to worry about is having hundreds of tabs and windows open in my web browsers, but that is more along the lines of slob control… hehehe!

Cheers ZBer! And thanks!
