Many thanks, that’s a great help. I don’t think that it is specific to Dynamesh meshes. This is what is happening:
-
If you create new topology with Ghost transparency turned OFF, then the new points will snap to the surface. If you switch to Move mode and move points they will stay on the surface, and you can’t move them below. So long as you keep Ghost transparency turned off, all should be well.
-
If you turn on Ghost transparency and move points below the surface, once you release the mouse button you may not be able to move them to the surface again.
Solution:
For a point below the surface, if the lines that connect to it are displayed gray then you won’t be able to move that point, if the lines are orange then you will be able to move it.
To get the lines to display orange, rotate the model. In general, the closer the line is to the screen plane the more likely it will be orange. Zooming out, so the model is quite small, also helps a lot.
As a last resort, you can draw a mask around the point you need to move (be careful that you don’t include any other points), invert the mask so that all points except that one are masked, then use the Tool>Deformation>Offset slider to move the point above the surface. Don’t forget to clear the mask from the other points before continuing.
