In Z3.1 how do I scale an object in one vector only?
I.E. make a cube taller, but not wider or deeper.
(The scale tool always seems to operate in two axes.)

move
put the action line at one point (cube, the bottom…or middle) then grab the other end and move that one.
OK. Bad example. I meant on a mesh more complicated.
Say a human figure.
I realise you CAN do it with move, and some very careful graduated
masking, but its easier to switch out to an external app’ than attempt it.
I’ve been trying shift and alt with scale, but no dice. Looks to me like
something is missing.

Try the deformations tab, that should help, though the move/scale buttons should do the trick as already mentioned.
