Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 2018

Everything installed and running fine, so that’s okay. Just a bit of a niche question:

Is there any way for users to prevent their full name appearing on the title bar for those of us preferring to remain anonymous/pseudonymous when sharing screenshots/video among various communities?
I realize that cropping is an option, but I’d rather not have to keep remembering to fire up photoshop/vegas every time I want to share something.
I’d imagine this would affect streamers, too.

As soon as you start to do anything – such as loading a project – that goes away and is replaced by the standard info.

That’s not true, its always there, sorry about that but its a fact.

“As soon as you start to do anything” …no it doesn’t
“loading a project” …yes it does

I for one, do not save projects very often.

As for the missing VCRUNTIME140.dll again: on the Knowledgebase page there is a link to download the vcredist_2015_x64. exe to fix this, but here in post #157, which seems to be related, you recommend to install vcredist_2017_x64.exe to fix that.
Is it necessary to install both versions to get it fixed?

I think either will do. The 2015 version is included in the 2017 one.

@Zber, I stopped using projects when backwards compatibility went away, so that part of the title bar never, so far, goes away.

My name disappears from the ZBrush 2018 title bar when I open projects, including ones made in 4R8. But otherwise my name stays visible in the title bar when I start working on something new, and I have to save that as a project and reopen it for my name to go away.

:slight_smile: Thankies.:+1:

I keep getting this pop up guys. Im not doing anything out of the ordinary. Been using zbrush for years but after I’ve installed 2018 this happens (see attachment ). Any suggestions?

PS - I’m using a MacBook Pro late 2014 with 16gb ram and OS X Sierra.

Are you using Sculptris Pro? There is mention of this in its documentation.Screen Shot 2018-04-07 at 11.38.20.png

For the purposes of creating custom interfaces, most UI buttons typically have alternate locations in the nested menus. Where are the following new buttons located, if not on the default UI?

Sculptis Pro Mode
Remember Draw Size per Brush
Remember Dynamic Mode per Brush

Sorry if this was answered somewhere in the proceeding 10 pages.

@Spyndel

Sculptis Pro Mode… beside Gizmo3D button at top and in Brush menu
Remember Draw Size per Brush… to the right of ZIntensity slider
Remember Dynamic Mode per Brush… to the right of Draw Size slider

@Zber2

Thanks, but maybe I wasn’t clear. Pretend you were building a custom UI from scratch, or trying to modify an older one, without having access to the new default UI. Where would you be able to drag those specific elements from?

The Sculptis Mode has an “enable” button in the brush menu, but it is not the same economically-shaped button as the main interface element. The various draw sliders can be pulled from the Draw menu, but the new “Remember X” element buttons are not also located there. This is what Im looking for.

Thanks again!

sorry Scott !

2 Remember X buttons are in Preferences > Draw but the only Sculptris Pro ones are the ones that are on the UI that I know of.

@Zber2

Thanks! 2 out of 3 is still very helpful.

It seems like the Sculptris Pro mode button should also be located in the Transform menu next to the Gizmo button there. There’s even room for it in that menu cluster.

Ah! Found the Sculptris Pro button. It’s in Stroke> Scultris Pro. I missed it the first time I looked there.

Thanks for all the help.

[Edit] I should also mention this information was located in the Sculptris Pro documentation, so apologies for not reading deep enough there.

DOH! facepalm. :slight_smile:

All the buttons etc. on the interface have their equivalents in the palettes. You can find out where by holding the cursor over the item and pressing Ctrl. At the bottom of the pop-up info you’ll see a line in gray beginning “Button path:”. Then will follow the “address” of the item - the palette and sub-palette where the item resides.

Thanks for that Marcus! I’ve been a zbrush user for close to 15 years now and never really noticed the button path in the Ctrl-mouseover tool tips before. Always something new to learn.

Yes

Sorry if this has been answered already, but I’ve been looking for a while and found nothing on it.

If I’m right, Zbrush used to be upgraded for free within the same version (all Zbrush 3 versions being free, but not necessarily the upgrade to Zbrush 4). Does the new naming convention mean it will be charged on a yearly basis, or will all upgrades be free?

Pixologic guarantees free upgrades for one year from date of purchase. That being said, we have never yet charged for an upgrade. Even the people who bought the first release something like 19 years ago still received ZBrush 2018 as a free upgrade. I know that sooner or later we will start charging but whenever that happens, the one year guarantee still stands.
