Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 2018

Ok, submitted a support ticket asking for help upgrading my license, and getting the download link. Just have to wait now for a response.

If I downloaded Zbrush 2018 before I disabled Windows Defender or Download Manager do I have to re-download 2018 again?

Same errors here, I sent them a grab of the first two errors.

Hey make a support ticket, I was told this behavior was not found during testing, and has not been reported yet.

Also, follow up question, are you running any streaming software/application overlays while running zbrush? I’ve tested it with OBS studio up and running, and without. And the crashes don’t seem to happen at all when OBS is not running. Or at least, I didn’t crash this last session.

Hi and thanks a lot for this new release!
I’ m playing with new features, but each time I try to lounch PolyGroupIt, it crashes( PolyGroupIt only, not ZBrush):
ā€œPoliGroupIt.exe Has Stopped workingā€
I have tried with diferent meshes, in different sessions and after ā€œinitā€ sessions, but the result has been the same…
After closing the popup windows, the text ā€œtoastā€ ā€œWaiting for PolyGroupIt to finishā€ continues to blink till I press the ā€œESCā€ key.
Could you give me some advice?
Thanks in advance!

Does your video card support OpenGL 3.3 or higher?

It seemed to be that I got my issues with my license key all straightened out. Last message I got from my ticket I submitted was…

ā€œYour email address is your Pixologic ID. Sounds like you are good to go!ā€

Am I right in that you can only get a download from an email? No place else? Even when I was having problems with my Pixo ID it still generated a new number for Zbrush 2018 but there is not a download link on that page. Am missing someplace to download? Sorry was scanning all the problems on here…cant find where I thought I saw an answer to this. Thanks!

Yes, the download link is sent to your email address. Be sure to check your junk mail folder, spam filter, Promotions tab, etc. If you still can’t find it you’ll need to submit a ticket to have the email resent. If you have SBC Global, I would honestly recommend asking to have your email address changed in the system as well.

Yes, that is what I just went through above, fixing the email address. I guess I will start a second ticket now asking for a link to the download.

I’m running Mac OS X 10.11.6, when using Sculptris Pro, crashes after only 5-7 mins of Sculpting. I’ve only opened ZBrush 2018 about 8 times, crash almost every time. I’ll look into the Performance , multi thread in Preferences menu. Hopefully I can adjust it and stop crashes…

AAAAAAA…oooook!
I try to lounch Zbrush with the Nvidia card active and , now, PolyGroupIt works!
Usually I lounch ZBrush in ā€œCPU modeā€ first of all because I thought ZB was based on CPU computation, second because my graphics card is slower then my CPU (intel i7 2670QM Vs GeForce 540M…old hardware, I know, but…this is what I have…) and, in my case, ZBrush works better with the first method.
Anyway, now it works!
Thank you very much for your support!!!

What would be the proper path to upgrading to the latest Keyshot, when 2018 is in use? Thanks!

You upgrade through My Licenses, on the KeyShot tab.

If i haven’t heard anything on my ticket by tuesday, should i open a new one? I’m thinking I submitted it under the wrong category (upgrades, not licensing, though at this point, it’s sorta the same thing).

Also, might I make a suggestion?

Has anyone at Pixo considered using steam as a distribution platform for new versions and patches? It should certainly avoid this sort of situation happening again.

Hello!

I’m facing the same problem as larvantholos, the sculptris keeps crashing Zbrush every 5-20 minutes. I’ve run the previous versions without an issue, but now after the upgrade, the whole program seems to have these major lag spikes even with a low polygon objects. I could make something that had 2mil+ polygons without a problem and now just under 50 000 seems to be the maximum. I have tried to use the sculptris tool with large brushes and low polygon object, have tried masking to limit the area of effect, but it still crashes without a warning. It has crashed a few times with the new Project primitive addon too, but it’s not as common.

I’ve updated everything I can think of… I have 6GB of memory left to use. It should be enough, right? Only thing that comes to mind is the Wacom tablet I’m using. Could it be a reason for such behavior? When I opened Zbrush for the first time after the upgrade, it did pop up a window saying that the tablet driver were disabled. I installed the tablet again and the tiny window disappeared. Could it still be causing a glitch?

Thank you!
~Julia

@larvantholos - DONE
ā€œmake a support ticket, I was told this behavior was not found during testing, and has not been reported yet.ā€

For Mac OS users experiencing crashes, if you know anything specific pls add here- support is noting a 24 hour wait time for responses

Hi,

"Placement and Orientation of the Gizmo 3DWhen in Gizmo 3D mode, a short click on any part of the model (active or non-active SubTools) will position the center of the Gizmo 3D on the click location. The orientation of the Gizmo 3D will be defined by the orientation of the clicked polygon. This behavior is very similar to single-clicking on a model with the TransPose action line.

If you perform a click and drag between two points on the model the Gizmo 3D will be placed at the location of the initial click and the Z axis (blue) will be oriented along the direction of your drag. This is very convenient to align the Gizmo 3D to an accurate orientation in order to move the selection along this axis."

Gizmo documentation http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide…ic-operations/ states that clicking on the model will move the Gizmo. Yes but only if you unlock first, obvious once you know; for beginners - could do with pointing that out.

CTRL N Same goes for this- New only works if not in edit mode. (why!?)

Rotate a fixed number of degrees with the gizmo? Almost impossible to hit an exact number. Need a input box please- not just a readout.

Deformation > offset - Why is a positive z (up) move a negative number of the slider? I read all about the 100 mark being the radius of the object etc., which means the slide moves the object a max of half its ā€œradiusā€ in the opposite direction expected. Mmmm.

Zplugins - The 2018 page only seems to offer the Keyshot bridge - was looking for Ringmaster for 2018. Is that coming? Would love to be able to place my own .obj files around the ring/stones. … and at measured mm distances edge to edge and centre to centre.

Rant over. Will try harder ; > ) I love ZBrush really.

ANOTHER FREE UPGRADE!
yet people here act crazy about the lag of ticket responses.
Do you guys really think the support team is online 24/7 to resolve typical issues that come with each new upgrade.
Besides, reading this thread often answers your questions …

show some patience and respect.

Now my question:
Do I have to deactivate the Keyshot Bridge somehow or how does the plugin need to be installed for ZB2018?
I somehow canā€˜t manage to get the bridge running for this version.

EDIT: Got it running. Basically the same new procedure as activating ZB2018.
It took me a few trys until the connection worked and then ZB Bridge was running.

Hi, I’d like to know how do I proceed with ZBrush Plug-ins, is it save to use 4R8 plug-ins with 2018 version.

Thank you

Ok, thanks to the Pixologic support team, i’ve got my license upgraded and zbrush downloaded (both mac and windows, just in case i decide to get a mac one day, or a Wacom Cintiq Touch, which i’ve actually been looking at), and activated just fine, actually a lot easier that previous versions.

I couldn’t figure out why Sculptris Pro would suddenly stop working in Windows 10 after a few minutes, then I realized that Spotlight Projection is turned on by default. So I was losing Sculptris every time I turned on Spotlight, which I use for reference. I’ve been using Startup Master to keep it turned off and can’t remember if there’s another way. I’ve got a hot key set up for now,

I did try using it to project in Sculptris just now and it works great!

@hellerd
Easiest thing to do will be to use ZStartupMaster once it’s available for ZBrush2018.
I haven’t checked if the 4R8 version works as is, but it probably should.

Im lost, I cant even figure out where to get it or how to instal it. I think I need more coffee.

  • If you have not used My Licenses to upgrade your serial number, that is the first step. After upgrading, you'll get a delivery email with the download.
  • If you have upgraded your ZBrush 4 license and now see a ZBrush 2018 license in My Licenses, check your email. It was sent there. If there is nothing in your inbox, junk folder, etc. you will need to submit a Suport ticket to have it resent.
  • If you do not have a ZBrush 2018 license in your My Licenses page and it is not available when you click the upgrade button then something went wrong and you need to submit a Support ticket to have it fixed.
  • If you tried upgrading your ZBrush 4 license but My Licenses still lists it when you click the Upgrade button, try again. Something went wrong with the first attempt but it didn't affect your license. After upgrading, you'll get the email with your download link.
  • Thank god for coffee!
